A house fire in Wethersfield late Monday was caused by discarded fireworks, fire officials said.

Fire crews just before 9:20 p.m. responded to a home on Mitchell Court on the report of a structure fire and found that the rear exterior of the house was on fire, according to the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Crews had just finished up a training session and were able to quickly get to the blaze, officials said.

Everyone inside the house had gotten out safely.

The flames were knocked down before they could extend to the interior of the home, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported.

According to the fire department, the fire was caused by the remains of legal fireworks that were discarded into a plastic trash barrel.
