After what can only be described as the best season in UConn women’s ice hockey history, Huskies head coach Chris MacKenzie was named the National Coach of the Year by the American Hockey Coaches Association.

MacKenzie led the Huskies to their first-ever Hockey East regular season and tournament titles, the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and a school-record 25 wins. The Huskies also set records for most conference wins and longest-ever win streak.

UConn finished 25-8-5 overall in 19-4-4 in Hockey East.

The Huskies defeated Northeastern, 1-0, in overtime on March 9 to win the Hockey East tournament title and advance to the NCAA Tournament. They gave Minnesota-Duluth everything they had once there, but fell 1-0 in a double overtime thriller.

MacKenzie has been head coach at UConn since 2013, having previously coached at Niagara, where he played college hockey.
