Road work in the area of Park Road and Trout Brook Drive — part of the ongoing $6.8 million I-84 and Park Road reconstruction project — is expected to begin on April 1.
Town officials said this phase of the reconstruction project will be more disruptive than last year’s work on the I-84 ramps and the intersection on Park Road, and motorists are asked to avoid the area over the next few months.
Starting Monday, crews with Newington-based Paramount Construction will begin work on storm drains at the southeast corner of the Park Road and Trout Brook Drive intersection and continue across the intersection to the northwest corner. That work is expected to span roughly six weeks, West Hartford Civil Engineer Greg Sommer said.
Road closures and detours expected the first two weeks
Motorists traveling north on Trout Brook Drive toward Park Road will be detoured to White Avenue, then to South Quaker Lane to re-enter Park Road. Motorists traveling east on Park Road will be able to turn left onto Trout Brook Drive but may not be able to continue onto Park Road.
The first detour route will last about two weeks and be in place from about 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the week.

Under the second detour, Park Road will be closed to eastbound traffic through the intersection but motorists coming off the I-84 ramp will be able to make a left onto Trout Brook Drive, Sommer said.
Park Road will be closed to westbound traffic at South Quaker Lane.
Trout Brook Drive will be closed to northbound traffic at White Avenue and detoured to Quaker Lane South to Boulevard. Trout Brook Drive will also be closed to southbound traffic at Boulevard.
The second detour route will last about two weeks and be in place from from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Sunday through Thursday.
Road closures and detours expected the following two weeks
For the last two weeks of the construction crew’s drainage work, southbound traffic on Trout Brook Drive will be rerouted west onto Boulevard to North Main Street and back onto Park Road.
The third detour route will last about two weeks and be in place from from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
