Dance is a powerful communal activity. It’s strong medicine for the hearts and feet of the people. Some dance to remember, some dance to forget, as the saying goes. Turkuaz, a Brooklyn-based funk powerhouse, offers a little bit of both.

The music points back to different eras, disco, New Wave, the golden age of soul-funk and beyond. Turkuaz also presents the possibility of getting deeply lost in the music, forgetting one’s trouble’s on the dance floor. The mix of rhythmic guitar playing, raw synth tones, exuberant horns, propulsive drumming, energetic group singing and rubbery bass makes Turkuaz a live band with its own internal-combustion engines.

The band just released the single “Superstatic,” which gestures toward the beefy-bass and tight-leather funk of Cameo. It’s music that snaps and pops with an impressive surface tension and shine.

See Turkuaz at Infinity Hall, 32 Front St., Hartford, on April 5 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $24 to $56. 866-666-6306 and infinityhall.com.
