As a longtime Loafer Girlie, I couldn't be happier that loafers are still having ~a moment~ (shoutout to the resurgence of Y2K and early-aughts aesthetics!!). From menswear-inspired penny loafers to chunky lug-sole loafers, I love 'em all—but since I value comfort above all else, I have zero patience for shoes that require a breaking-in period. Some styles can feel pretty stiff initially, while others are way too clunky or heavy for my liking. And if you, too, require comfy shoes to feel like your best self, I've got actually comfortable loafers that your feet will <3.

So...what makes for a comfortable loafer? As Nomasei designers Paule Tenaillon and Marine Braquet previously told Cosmo, it's always a good idea to look for loafers with "a flexible sole, a vamp that isn't overly tight, and a slight lift so that it's not too flat." Likewise, loafers made with natural fibers like leather tend to be more breathable and have more stretch than those made with synthetic materials (though you may still want to wear new leather loafers with socks until they soften). Now, on to the good stuff!

Our top picks for the most comfortable loafers of 2024:

Ahead, the comfiest loafers your $$$ can buy, including flats, platforms, and pumps that won't leave your poor lil feet covered in blisters. Oh, and be sure to check out our fave loafer 'fits for some styling inspo.

1
most comfortable lug-sole loafers

Madewell Corinne Lugsole Loafer

Corinne Lugsole Loafer
Now 15% Off
$134 at Madewell$71 at amazon.com$158 at nordstrom.com
Pros
  • On-trend but still timeless
  • Feature a padded insole for extra comfort
Cons
  • Run a bit narrow, per some testers
  • May feel a bit stiff for the first few wears

IMO, these are the Goldilocks of lug-sole loafers: chunky but not too chunky. I've been in love with mine since the very first wear (the padded insoles are *chef's kiss*), and whether I pair 'em with jeans, work pants, or midi skirts, these shoes never miss. Pro tip: I went half a size up to wear mine with socks, and the fit is perfect.

  • Size range: 5-11 with half sizes
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 0.875"
  • Colors: True black or dried maple

THE REVIEW: "I absolutely love these loafers," writes one tester. "They fit true to size. I love that slightly chunky look that doesn’t make my foot look huge. They also are comfy to walk or stand in for long periods of time. Would buy again!"

2
most comfortable classic loafers

G.H.BASS Whitney Weejuns Loafer

Whitney Weejuns Loafer
Pros
  • Seriously high quality
  • Great for dressing up or down
Cons
  • Many reviewers had to go up a size
  • Sole is leather, so doesn't have the best traction

Ah, yes, the quintessential beefroll penny loafer. Handsewn in El Salvador, the Whitney is a beloved classic for a reason, featuring gorgeous moc stitching, a very low heel, and buttery-soft leather uppers. Best of all, you can rest assured these will never go out of style.

  • Size range: 5-11 with half sizes
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 0.87"
  • Colors: Wine or black

THE REVIEW: "Fit comfortably right out the box," one reviewer notes. "I was surprised no breaking in required. I ordered my usual size in shoes. They are of course looser when I wear thin no-show socks but still feel great. Definitely can tell it's a good-quality shoe. Very cute classic look!"

3
most comfortable loafers on Amazon

Steve Madden Lando Loafer

Lando Loafer
Pros
  • Look way more expensive than they are
  • Only require a short breaking-in period, per reviewers
Cons
  • Def run a bit small
  • Testers say they scuff and crease pretty easily

Yep, these are the way more affordable Gucci lug-sole loafer alternatives you've seen all over TikTok—and even though they're made with vegan leather, many reviewers say they look and feel pretty darn close to the real thing. You'll love the on-trend chunky lug sole and classic horsebit hardware...as well as the fact that they're almost always available on sale on Amazon.

  • Size range: 5-12 with half sizes
  • Material: Faux leather
  • Heel height: 1.5"
  • Color: Black

THE REVIEW: "Great loafer!" reads one review. "Way more comfortable than the Gucci lug-sole loafer and, uhm, saved $1,150. Thank you, Steve Madden. As other reviews suggested, I sized up a half size—they are comfortable, kind of cushy, and not too narrow."

most comfortable tassel loafers

Franco Sarto Carolynn Tassel Loafer

Carolynn Tassel Loafer
Pros
  • Not real leather, but still feel soft and supple
  • Tassel detail is such a cute touch
Cons
  • Many found their heel tends to slip out the back
  • May need to go down half a size

Cute menswear-inspired tasseled loafers that cost less than $100? Say less!! These bestsellers allow ya to embrace the tassel trend without dropping too much dough. And, no, they're not made with real leather, but reviewers are still v impressed with the quality and the comfort.

  • Size range: 5-11 with half sizes
  • Material: Faux leather
  • Heel height: 1.5"
  • Colors: Camel brown, black, inky navy, gold, burgundy, putty white, or slate grey

5
most comfortable driving loafers

M.Gemi The Felize

The Felize
Now 12% Off
Pros
  • Suede uppers look so luxe
  • Most found it runs true to size
Cons
  • A bit too tight in the toe box for some
  • Could have better arch support

There are a lot of great driving shoes out there, but M. Gemi's Felize (which Cosmo loves, btw) is srsly top-notch in terms of quality and style. These shoes features a true moccasin construction, dreamy suede uppers, and a classic pebbled rubber sole—and they'll cost ya way less than a pair of Tod's drivers.

  • Size range: 5-12 with half sizes
  • Material: Suede
  • Heel height: Flat
  • Colors: Sunset red, black, saddle, midnight blue, latte, gray, or mushroom

THE REVIEW: "The Felize is a wonderful shoe," one buyer writes. "It fits true to size and is very comfortable and stylish! Sometimes driving mocs can be difficult to walk in, as the nubs aren't always placed comfortably. These mocs are as comfortable for walking as they are for driving! Highly recommend!"

Leah Loafer
Now 65% Off
Pros
  • Memory foam padding is A+
  • Metallic color is so eye-catching
Cons
  • Lug sole is pretty heavy, per testers
  • Run a tad bit small

I saw Olivia Rodrigo wearing the Coach Leah Loafer, so I bought the Coach Leah Loafer. I <3 the chunky '90s-inspired lug sole and the tailored detailing at the vamp (and the cushiony memory foam padding inside is also v clutch). And if you're not into metallics, you'll be happy to know this one comes in neutral colors as well.

  • Size range: 5-11 with half sizes
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 1.5"
  • Colors: Silver metallic, black, black patent, chalk, or maple

The Starling
Pros

most comfortable platform loafers

Melissa Royal

Royal
Now 40% Off
Pros
  • Super chunky with such a lightweight feel
  • Fit pretty true to size (though no half sizes are available)
Cons
  • Bubblegum scent def isn't for everyone
  • Not as versatile as other options

Clomping around in a pair of chunky loafers is fun and all, but sometimes, ya don't want something so...loud. The solution: these glossy lug-sole platforms, which are made with Melissa's propriety MelFlex material (a form of PVC that's durable, recyclable, and amazingly lightweight). Oh, and did I mention these shoes smell like straight-up bubblegum??

  • Size range: 5-10
  • Material: PVC
  • Heel height: 2.24"
  • Colors: Beige, pink, black, or glitter

THE REVIEW: According to one reviewer, "These are cute and really comfy. I’m usually a 6.5 or 7 and I order a size 6 and they fit perfect! Even though they have a chunky look, they’re lightweight!"

9
most comfortable everyday loafers

Everlane The Modern Loafer

The Modern Loafer
Pros
  • Foam-cushioned insoles provide tons of comfort
  • Fit true to size, according to many testers
Cons
  • Some found the back of the heel chafed their ankles
  • May not be a great fit for those with wider feet

So elegant! So versatile! So damn comfortable! With its sleek tapered toe and small stacked heel, this shoe is ideal for wearing with legit everything, and that fun stitch detailing keeps it from looking too *yawn.* Plus, the foam-cushioned insole helps to make it comfy from the very first wear.

  • Size range: 5-11 with half sizes
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 1"
  • Colors: Camel or black

THE REVIEW: According to one tester, "The second I tried these on, they made my outfit look so much cleaner and tied together, and I was blown away by how soft and comfortable they were right off the bat. This is flexible, buttery leather, and I haven’t had a single blister—they required absolutely no breaking in. 10/10."

10
most comfortable wide-foot loafers

Naturalizer Desi Loafer

Desi Loafer
Now 56% Off
Pros
  • Platform heel is v walkable
  • Available in both medium and wide widths
Cons
  • Can slip off the heel pretty easily, per some reviewers
  • Chain detail is a bit loose, so it may jingle when you walk

Finding comfortable loafers when you have a wider foot can be tricky (especially when you add on a heel). Luckily, Naturalizer offers this cute platform heel loafer in two different widths, complete with funky metallic chain-link detailing and a cushy footbed that contours to your foot.

  • Size range: 5-12 with half sizes; medium or wide width
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 2.25"
  • Colors: Taupe, black, vanilla crème, tan, or cappuccino brown

THE REVIEW: "Extremely comfortable if you are on your feet all day," notes one tester. "They also look great! I got them in two colors."

11
most comfortable chain loafers

Zou Xou Alma Loafer

Alma Loafer
Pros
  • Acrylic chain is a unique touch
  • Feel substantial but not clunky
Cons
  • May take a few weeks to arrive (but worth the wait!)
  • Some reviewers said they run a bit small

Okay, but how fun is that chunky acrylic chain detail?? A modern take on a classic shoe, the Alma Loafer (which is handmade in Argentina) features a square toe, kidskin leather upper, and stacked leather heel—and while it's available in black, I'm a sucker for this rich pinot color.

  • Size range: 5.5-11.5 with half sizes
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 0.85"
  • Colors: Pinot or black

THE REVIEW: "I had my eye on these gorgeous loafers for a few weeks before getting them, and they are worth every penny," one buyer raves. "The quality is impeccable, they arrived much more quickly than I anticipated, and they are stunning. I know I will wear, and love, these amazing shoes for years and years."

12
most comfortable penny loafers

Margaux The Penny

The Penny
Pros
  • Flexible construction keeps them from ever feeling stiff
  • Available in a variety of widths and colorways
Cons
  • Run v narrow, according to reviewers
  • Some colorways look different in person than they do online

The problem with a lot of loafers: They feel stiff AF. But that's not an issue with these Italian calf suede beauts, as they have a flexible, unlined construction that ensures a glove-like fit. Other perks include plush foam padding on the footbed, as well as the variety of width and color options.

  • Size range: 3-14 with half sizes; narrow, medium, or wide width
  • Material: Suede
  • Heel height: 0.5"
  • Colors: 9 options

THE REVIEW: As one reviewer notes, "Feels like a house slipper disguised as a chic loafer. They molded to my feet with my very first wear. I love how they seriously upgrade an otherwise quiet outfit."

most comfortable heeled loafers

Bibi Lou Valencia Heels

Valencia Heels
Pros
  • Square toe box is pretty roomy
  • Provide some height without being unwalkable
Cons
  • Some reviewers struggled to find the right size
  • Can take a few wears to break in

Listen, I love a good pair of chunky loafer pumps. But when it comes to versatility, these heeled loafers from Bibi Lou are the real winners. The gold bit hardware and sleek silhouette give 'em such an elevated lewk (while the roomy square toe and walkable block heel will keep your feet happy for hours).

  • Size range: 4.5-12 with half sizes
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 2.75"
  • Colors: Rojo, marino, verde, ivory, blue croc, black, or camel

THE REVIEW: "These loafers are adorable, trendy, and comfortable!" one reviewer notes. "The heel is a perfect height to wear to work and out with friends, with pants, jeans, dresses, or skirts. I will be wearing these all fall!"

14
most comfortable horsebit loafers

Sam Edelman Loraine Bit Loafer

Loraine Bit Loafer
Pros
  • Looks like a designer shoe (but costs way less $$$!!)
  • Stretchy and true to size
Cons
  • Some said the sole feels a lil flimsy
  • Could use a bit more arch support

It's giving Gucci Jordaan Loafer on a budget, no? With its almond toe, padded leather insole, and gold hardware, the internet-famous Loaraine Bit Loafer has earned so many rave reviews...probs because it's designer quality at an actually affordable price.

  • Size range: 5-14 with half sizes; medium or wide width
  • Material: Leather
  • Heel height: 0.5"
  • Colors: 30+ options

THE REVIEW: "These are hands down the most comfortable loafers I have ever worn," one reviewer raves. "They might possibly be the most comfortable non-athletic shoes I have ever owned. A truly classic and versatile shoe that goes with most everything. I will be purchasing in other colorways."
