SRSG on Migration and Refugees to visit the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic

The Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees (SRSG), Leyla Kayacik, will visit the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic from 2 to 6 May 2022. The aim of the visit is to follow-up on the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Europe´s Network on Focal Points on Migration on people fleeing Ukraine, during which the need for the protection of in particular women, unaccompanied and separated children, children and the elderly from abuse, exploitation and human trafficking was particularly underlined.

The Special Representative will explore how best the Council of Europe can offer its expertise to both countries, including in the framework of the Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025), and in coordination with international partners based on an exchange of information that took place on 4 April 2022.

The Special Representative will visit centres hosting refugees and will have meetings with representatives of the authorities, of relevant international organisations as well as of NGOs.
