Start us off with an overview.
Enter through a massive floor-to-ceiling door and walk into a buzzy space dominated by warm millwork. The space was designed by Ste Marie Studio’s Craig Stanghetta, the local wunderkind behind several gorgeous Vancouver spots, who opened this Mount Pleasant neighborhood destination with celebrated restaurateur Paul Grunberg. But you’re not here just to ogle the room. Savio Volpe is a modern take on a traditional Italian osteria, complete with a simple, unpretentious menu featuring homemade pastas, meats grilled over a wood fire, and market-fresh ingredients.

Who else is here?
Looking for a diverse crowd? You’ve come to the right place. Over there, that’s a family with kids celebrating a special occasion; one table over, two well-dressed mid-30s couples sharing a plate of bagna cauda.

What's on the drinks menu?
A large wine list that's solidly Italian, and every wine, from Barbera to Barolo, can be ordered by the glass. The cocktail menu includes a full selection of negroni creations and Italian cocktails, such as the Sicilian G&T and Lambrusco Spritz, plus several non-alcoholic options.

And the food—what do you recommend?
The rustic osteria cuisine is served family-style; the portions are generous. You can let the restaurant cook for you by ordering its popular “alla famiglia” option, where plentiful dishes come out after another, complete with dessert. Although the fresh pastas and grilled meats, such as the dry aged bone-in ribeye with bone marrow and roasted garlic are popular choices, the simple kale salad and wood-fired half-chicken with salmoriglio and charred lemon are just as good.

How do the front-of-house folks treat you?
Servers are very knowledgeable and welcoming. Bambinos also receive fun fox masks (their mascot) and coloring sheets.

Why would you recommend a visit to Savio Volpe?
This is a convivial, energetic space, and the family-style menu makes it best enjoyed with a group of good friends or loved ones.
