Tooba Awan

Director for Economy, Special Competitive Studies Project

Tooba Awan is an experienced national security professional working at the intersection of emerging technologies, foreign policy, national security and economy. She is currently the Director for Economy at the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP). Her research at SCSP focuses on making recommendations to strengthen the levers in U.S. economic statecraft, including export controls, investment security, sanctions, and other economic tools.

Ms. Awan was previously dedicated to the enforcement of U.S. export control laws at the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Before BIS, she focused on promoting economic prosperity at the Minority Business Development Agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Earlier in her career, Ms. Awan served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Combat Action Badge for her actions in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 82nd Airborne Division.
