Kate spent six weeks in the hospital starting in March 2024 with a mystery illness. She made her red carpet debut following her health crisis on May 2 at the King’s Trust global gala in New York City.

Fans noticed the actress appeared thinner than in photos from earlier in the year. In a May 28 Instagram post, Kate revealed she suffered a tear between her esophagus and stomach, which required surgery and recovery. The Van Helsing star admitted to fans that the experience “contributed to some weight loss.”
