What Happened to the Cast of ‘Good Bones’? Find Out Where the HGTV Show’s Stars Are Now
The cast of Good Bones was responsible for transforming homes around Indiana under the guidance of Mina Starsiak Hawk. After announcing that season 8 would be the show’s last, fans were definitely shocked when a special new season was announced in July 2024.
Prior to the new season being announced, the realtor also revealed that things on the set of Good Bones weren’t always so peachy. During an episode of her “Mina AF” podcast, Mina revealed that she was not in “a great place” with a few of her castmates, leading many to wonder what happened to the show’s other stars.

Mina ended up closing her Two Chicks and a Hammer retail location in Bates-Hendricks, Indiana, after filming of Good Bones season 8 wrapped. The real estate mogul also downsized her team, revealed that none of the show’s cast members still work for her Two Chicks and a Hammer company.
Shortly after closing the flagship store, she announced she was opening a new location in Noblesville, Indiana. On top of her new business venture, the mom of two opened up about her rocky relationship with her mom, Karen E. Laine, and brother Tad Starsiak. Mina revealed she was not on “good terms” with either of them during an August 2023 podcast episode.
“We all put our big kid pants on and pretend to be nice … then go back to our corners of the universe and talk s–t about each other,”she told listeners. “My mom and I aren’t in a great place. My brother Tad and I aren’t in a great place. My brother William and I are in a kind of like nonexistent place. It’s complicated without even being complicated. We don’t really engage much and the last engagement wasn’t super positive, and that was maybe a year ago.”
Mina and her husband, Steve Hawk, purchased a new lake house, which will be the subject of a renovation spinoff show coming to HGTV.
“It’s going to be for my family but also for my extended family to make these new, amazing memories,” she shared of the new property.
In July 2024, it was announced that Mina and Karen would both star in the show, “as their lives evolve past their time renovating homes in Indianapolis,” HGTV announced.
“Mina will purchase a very dated but ‘groovy’ lake house just north of Indy and give it much needed cosmetic updates to create the peaceful family getaway of her dreams,” the press release said. “Karen will set off on a new adventure in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she’ll risk her retirement nest egg on a bungalow that requires more work than anticipated to become a colorful beachy oasis. Their new beginnings will play out across a limited three-week run.”

Amid her drama with Mina, Karen purchased a new home in Wilmington, North Carolina, which she is currently renovating. The DIY expert also teased that she hoped to work with HGTV again in the future, leading many to suspect she already had a new show in the works.
“After eight years of doing Good Bones, I love our production company,” she told Indianapolis Business Journal in September 2023. “They are amazingly talented people. They have taught me so much. I don’t want to stop working with them. I would like to work with them until I die because they’re wonderful. HGTV has been wonderful to us. If I could create content for HGTV until I die, that would be a dream come true.”
Of course, that dream came true when her new limited series with Mina was announced. According to the network, “episodes will feature Karen’s purchase of a 120-year-old beach bungalow with challenges at every turn, including weather that threatens to destroy the entire project mid-build.”

During the season 8 finale of Good Bones, Tad got engaged to Anna Spiars. The pair are still together and living in their newly renovated Indianapolis home. The general contractor owns his own company called Hammer Construction. In July 2024, Tad posted a video of one of his builds in his Instagram Stories, sharing that he is “living the dream” and doing what he “loves.”

Cory Miller
Mina revealed that she and project manager Cory Miller are “not on speaking terms” during a December 2023 episode of her podcast.
“It’s a super bummer because I have historically had a great relationship with Cory, and when things end particularly like they did, people’s colors just show a little more, which is a blessing because then I have a choice to make a different choice,” she said.
Cory runs his own construction company, Miller Built LLC, and is still great friends with Karen. In fact, he has visited her numerous times since the show ended, teasing on Instagram that he was involved in her new home renovation.

Contractor Austin Aynes is no longer a member of the Two Chicks and a Hammer team. Mina explained that he was one of the people she let go from her team when she decided to downsize.
“I wanted to try to find a soft landing space for as many people on my team as I could, and one of the things that I did because Tad does have his own company is [that] I reached out to him and said two of the people on the team, Austin being one of them, I’m not in a position where I can maintain a large team anymore,” Mina said on her podcast in October 2023. “I would like to be able to go to them with an option when I go to them and say, ‘I can’t maintain you anymore.’ That worked. Tad said, ‘Yes, I have room on my team,’ and he actually took on Austin, who is an amazing employee as well as another one of my employees.”

Designer MJ Coyle is still friends with Mina and has been assisting in her lake house renovation.
“I am filming the lake house, and MJ is in there here and there; he comes and helps us demo, and I’m always throwing stuff against the wall to see what will stick,” Mina revealed. “If any new show ever did stick, MJ would definitely be one of the people that I’d be like, ‘Hey, do you want to do this?’”
While MJ has continued his work as a design consultant outside of Good Bones, he’s made quite a few bombshell revelations about the drama that ensued behind the scenes.
“It got to the point that our small team, at that point, we weren’t like even enjoying each other’s company,” he said while visiting Mina’s podcast in October 2023. “We got through COVID, we got through all of these things, we got through all of these seasons and everyone was just very burnt out. Everyone was sore. Everyone was miserable.”
