Investigators said New Smyrna Beach police and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office received a tip that Sippio, of Sanford, was in the area. Sippio was wanted for failure to appear in court on multiple charges including carjacking, fleeing law enforcement and driving on a suspended license, records show.

Sippio was spotted in a vehicle along North Peninsula Drive where he drove off from law enforcement, according to a news release. During the chase, investigators said Sippio stopped the vehicle and jumped in the backseat, allowing Veras to take the wheel.

Police managed to puncture the vehicle’s tires as it went over the North Causeway. The vehicle came to a stop near Desoto Drive and Sippio ran off, but officers ultimately nabbed him a short time later, according to the release.

Sippio is locked up in Volusia County awaiting extradition to Seminole County.

Veras faces charges of fleeing law enforcement and leaving the scene of a crash.
