Woman arrested on murder charge after shooting man in head in Winter Springs, police say

Police Chief Matt Tracht says domestic incident led to fatal shooting

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – A woman was arrested Wednesday on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder after she shot a man in the head during a domestic dispute at a Winter Springs apartment complex, police said.

The fatal shooting happened at Golf Pointe Villas on Sheoah Boulevard, northeast of State Road 434 and U.S. Highway 17-92.

According to Winter Springs police, Laurie Adams got into an argument late Tuesday with Adel Tawfeek who had come home and was upset their son had soiled his pants and began to yell at them. A police report stated that after Adams cleaned up their son and put him to bed, Tawfek yelled at her again and pushed her against a wall.

Adams then “took about 15 minutes to cool down” before she went into a closet, grabbed Tawfeek’s gun and walked toward the porch, where he was smoking, and shot him in the head.

Tawfeek was taken a Sanford hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Adams was arrested and taken to the Seminole County jail.

An investigation is ongoing.
