Over the weekend, the executive board voted to strip party chairman Christian Ziegler of his power and salary after allegations he raped a woman last month.
It’s a move state party members said wasn’t taken lightly.
“He deserves to go through the legal process but what we have is a political problem you can not lead the Republican party with the charges he has against him,” one member said.
Ziegler has refused to step down and denies the rape accusation.
Florida Republicans are set to hold another meeting on Jan. 8 to vote on whether Ziegler will be terminated from his position.

If you want to see a slice of old Florida, check out the Wood and Swink General Store and Post Office.
It’s located in a little town called Evinston about 20 minutes south of Gainesville.
Inside the store, you can find vintage soaps and canned goods — virtually unchanged from 1933, when Frederick W. Wood and Paul C. Swink bought the place.
Wood went on to become the longest-serving postmaster in Florida history at the tiny post office at the front of the store.
The 16 original mailboxes are still in use, though more boxes have been added over the years.
