‘My leg’s broken:’ Suspect runs over Florida deputy, video shows

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Hillsborough County deputy is in the hospital after being run over early Friday during an attempted traffic stop, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Kalin Hall, 33, around 12:05 a.m. tried to stop a BMW in the area of Bearss and Nebraska avenues when the driver took off at a high speed, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Hall encountered the BMW again around 12:25 a.m. at Plantation Oaks Drive, exiting his cruiser and walking around it before the BMW driver then rammed him and drove away, the release states.

Body-worn camera video of the incident shared by the sheriff’s office on social media shows both of the attempted traffic stops and ends with Hall on the ground, calling for assistance.

“He ran over me (...) my leg’s broken,” Hall said.

Hall was taken to Tampa General Hospital with a fractured leg, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives have since identified the owner of the car, which was found abandoned about a mile from the second stop, the release states.

Hall has been with the sheriff’s office for 11 years, the release states, adding he was scheduled for surgery later Friday morning.
