Hundreds of Central Florida students hit the stage during Disney Musicals in Schools partnership

More than 4K students in 28 Title 1 elementary schools have participated in program since 2015

ORLANDO, Fla. – Nearly 350 local students hit the stage at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The students performed in the Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share Celebration. Disney Musicals in Schools is a 17-week musical theatre residency provided at no cost to local schools. The mission is to develop sustainable musical theatre programs in Title 1 schools in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.

Students from Idyllwilde Elementary, Lake Silver Elementary, Lakeview Elementary, Oak Hill Elementary, and Riverside Elementary performed a scene from a Disney KIDS musical. During the 17-week residency, theatre professionals offered guidance, all leading to the final performance in front of family and friends.

“I’m just really excited to see them finish their season on this beautiful stage in a wonderful theater I think it’s really special. I think it’s amazing to finish in such a wonderful place with so many people to watch us,” said Deborah Parsons, the Theatre Club Director at Lake Silver Elementary. “So now looking forward I know that we have a team full of people that are really well versed in how to do this again and we’ll be able to have lots and lots of years of musicals at Lake Silver and that’s really cool.”

Disney Musicals in Schools is a partnership between the Dr. Phillips Center and Disney Theatrical Group.

Since 2015, more than 4,000 students in 28 Title 1 elementary schools have participated in the program.
