No alcohol or drugs in Brighton motorcycle crash

BRIGHTON, Mich. – A motorcycle crash in Brighton killed a 20-year-old from South Lyon and a 64-year-old from Fenton.

The crash happened Sunday, July 7, at about 6:40 p.m. According to authorities, a Michigan State Police trooper saw two speeding motorcycles that appeared to be racing on Old US-23, just north of Grand River Avenue. Police said as the trooper attempted to turn around, he saw in his rear-view mirror one of the motorcycles crash into the passenger side of a southbound minivan turning left onto Loch Lomond Road.

While the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, police said it was not strapped on and came off during the collision. A passenger in the van, a 64-year-old woman from Fenton, was also killed in the collision.

The other motorcycle did not stop and fled the scene. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
