DETROIT – A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder after reportedly killing someone during an argument on Detroit’s west side.

It happened near the intersection of Warwick Street and Vassar Drive at about 9 p.m on June 4. According to authorities, police arrived at the scene on reports of a shooting and found a man who had been shot multiple times in the street. The victim -- identified as 29-year-old Richard Shorts -- was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police believe there was an argument between Shorts and Dwaine Thomas Hunt III that ended when Hunt stole a handgun from an unidentified man and shot Shorts multiple times.

Hunt was arrested July 1. He was July charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and two counts of felony firearm. He was given no bond and was remanded back to jail.

His probable cause hearing will take place July 11. If convicted, Hunt faces the possibility of life in prison.
