ANN ARBOR – Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit announced on Thursday afternoon that the defendant accused of shooting a 6-year-old boy last weekend is now back in custody.
The shooting, which was recorded on video, took place on Sunday afternoon on the 1300 block of Candlewood Lane in Ypsilanti Township. According to the Coby Daniels’ family, neighbor Ryan Le-Nguyen shot the boy after he went to Le-Nguyen’s yard to retrieve his bike.

Coby said the man tried to first hit him with a sledgehammer but then went inside and fired a round at the child, hitting him in the arm.
Days later, Le-Nguyen was released on a $10,000 bond with orders to stay away from his house by Washtenaw County 14A District Court Judge Elisha Fink. The ruling was criticized by both community members and Savit, who announced in January he was scrapping cash bail.

“I’m trying to figure out he got a bond so low for trying to kill my kid,” Coby’s father Arnold Daniel told Fox 2 News. “I’m scared for my family because I don’t know what he’s capable of.”
In response, Savit’s office filed an emergency motion to have Le-Nguyen’s bond canceled.
“As a result, we have charged that case with the highest possible available charges--assault with intent to murder,” Savit wrote on Facebook.
Savit confirmed on Thursday that the defendant is back in custody.
