AT&T opens air-conditioned connectivity center with free WiFi, deploys their ‘Flying COW’ to help support cell service

In this Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, photo, an AT&T logo is displayed on an AT&T Wireless retail store front, in Philadelphia. The flow of customers into AT&T's wireless stores slowed further in the latest quarter, putting the company far behind rival Verizon Wireless. AT&T Inc. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, said it added a net 151,000 new customers on contract-based plans from July through September, the lowest number for that period since at least 2003. Residents across southeast Texas are looking to stay connected after Hurricane Beryl, and AT&T says they’re here to help.

Starting Tuesday, AT&T will be mobilizing its Mobile Connectivity Center (MCC) in parts of the Houston area.

AT&T staffers said the unit is an air-conditioned mobile computer lab, equipped with 16 laptops and free Wi-Fi, available for public use.

Additionally, the MCC offers charging stations to help people power up critical devices.

You can visit the center anytime from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will be located at the Deputy Almendarez Center at 10918 Bentley Street, Houston, TX 77093.

In another effort to support the community, AT&T has deployed a ‘Flying COW’ (Cell on Wings) to provide essential wireless service to emergency workers in areas with connectivity issues.
