Closures and cancellations announced following Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beryl left severe damage across parts of the Houston area Monday morning.

Several school districts and other businesses and agencies have announced closures for Tuesday.

Tuesday closures

Alief ISD

Due to Tropical Storm Beryl, hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses in and around the Houston area, including those in Alief ISD, are without power. In order to ensure the safe return of our students and staff, we will remain closed on Tuesday, July 9th. This will allow the power companies the opportunity to restore power as well as our staff to safely assess any damage that may have been done to their homes. Please remain safe and we will continue to keep you informed every step of the way.

Spring Branch ISD

Due to the ongoing issues facing our region following Hurricane Beryl, Spring Branch ISD will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, July 9, 2024. All summer school programs are canceled and all facilities and offices remain closed. Essential staff will be notified by their supervisor.

San Jacinto College

Due to the ongoing impacts to our region from Hurricane Beryl, San Jacinto College will remain closed on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, for all classes, operations and activities.

The San Jacinto College Administration and Office of Emergency Management continue to closely monitor the forecasts and recovery efforts across the region. The San Jacinto College Police Department and facilities teams are assessing the campuses as it is deemed safe to do so.

An update for Wednesday will be sent on Tuesday afternoon.

Lone Star College

Due to Hurricane Beryl, all Lone Star College properties and operations will remain closed (and classes will be canceled) on Tuesday, July 9.

Cleveland ISD

Due to impacts from Hurricane Beryl, all Cleveland ISD campuses and facilities will be CLOSED on Tuesday, July 9th, and Wednesday, July 10th, 2024. All district functions and events are canceled. We will inform the community about Thursday, July 11th at a later time.

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD

All CFISD schools and facilities will be closed again on Tuesday, July 9 due to widespread power outages and the amount of debris on roads. Thank you for your patience as CFISD and the entire Cy-Fair community continue to recover from Hurricane Beryl. Please stay safe!


Monday closures

Harris County Clerk’s Office

The Harris County Clerk’s Office will be closed today, Monday, July 8, 2024, due to the potential impacts from Hurricane Beryl.

La Porte ISD

In an abundance of caution, La Porte ISD will be closed, and all district activities will be canceled on Monday, July 8 because of inclement weather that is forecast for our area. We will update you about Tuesday on Monday afternoon. Meanwhile, we hope that you take all necessary precautions to remain safe.

Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo’s leadership team has been monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Beryl and has decided to close the Zoo at noon today, Sunday, July 7 through Monday, July 8. The safety of our team members, guests, and animals is our top priority, and we have made this decision with that in mind. The decision on whether we reopen the Zoo on Tuesday, July 9 will be made as the weather event continues.

The animals will be cared for during the storm by a select group of team members who will stay at the Zoo throughout the weather event. Our animals have safe and secure barns and night houses constructed to weather storms like this.

The Alcohol & Drug Testing Service

The Houston office at 411 Lantern Bend Dr, 77090 will be closed on July 8 due to Hurricane Beryl.

Legacy Community Health

To ensure the safety of patients and staff, Legacy Community Health clinics are closing on Monday, July 8 due to the tropical storm Beryl in our region.

All Telehealth appointments will continue Monday as planned.

Patients with appointments scheduled when the clinics are closed will be contacted proactively by clinic staff to reschedule their appointments.

School Based Health locations will follow the schedules of YES Prep, KIPP and Galena Park ISD schools on Tuesday.

Legacy will determine potential late openings and closures across all locations and regions for Tuesday, July 9 tomorrow. Any changes or specific clinic closures due to further weather issues will be announced on Monday evening.

Houston Christian University

In light of Hurricane Beryl, Houston Christian University is CLOSED tomorrow, Monday, July 8, 2024. Due to inclement weather, all on-campus classes are canceled and University offices are closed. Online classes will continue as scheduled.

METRO Services Suspended

Sunday, July 7

  • METRORail Red line’s last northbound trip from Fannin South will begin at 10 p.m. The last southbound trip from Northline will begin at 11 p.m.
  • METRO’s Green/Purple lines will begin their last trips at 10 p.m.
  • Local bus and METRORapid services will begin their last trips at 10 p.m.
  • METRO will monitor routes overnight to ensure patrons are not stranded and everyone gets home safely.

Monday, July 8

  • Local bus, METRORapid, METRORail, and METROLift services will be suspended until 8 a.m.
  • All Park & Ride services will be suspended.
  • METRO HOV/HOT lanes will be closed.
  • RideStores will be closed.

City of Houston Municipal Courts

Due to the projected impact of Hurricane Beryl, the City of Houston Municipal Courts Department will be CLOSED Monday, July 8, 2024. All normal court operations will resume on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Case resets will take place in person at all City of Houston court locations beginning Tuesday, July 9, 2024, through Friday, July 12, 2024, until 5 p.m.

Harris Health

Harris Health will close all of its outpatient and clinic facilities on Monday, July 8, 2024, ahead of Hurricane Beryl for the safety of patients and staff. Patients with appointments are being notified of the closures and rescheduling options.

Reminder: Harris Health hospitals—Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson—will remain open and maintain emergency medical services throughout the storm. The hospitals are not equipped to be shelters for people who are not admitted as patients. Any persons seeking shelter at a hospital will be redirected or transported to a local shelter operation, as available.

A determination of facility openings will be made Monday after an assessment of storm and utility damage.

Harris County Buildings and Courthouses

The courthouse facilities will be closed to the public. District Courts (excluding the 165th and 270th which will hold virtual dockets) and County Courts will not have dockets. Jury service at the Harris County Jury Assembly, 1201 Congress Street, is canceled Monday, July 8th. Those summoned to appear on Monday, July 8th do not need to appear or reschedule. Empaneled jurors for a specific court should contact their court directly with any questions or concerns.

H-E-B to adjust store hours

With TS Beryl scheduled to bear down on Texas overnight, H-E-B will temporarily adjust hours of operation. H-E-B Lake Jackson will close at 10 p.m. tonight. All H-E-B, Joe V’s, Mi Tienda and Central Market stores across the Greater Houston area will have normal hours today but will delay opening tomorrow, July 8, until noon. This includes all H-E-B Fuel Stations and Pharmacies at those stores. Store hours could be adjusted according to local conditions. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates should conditions change.

East Chambers ISD

No summer school or meals on July 8.

City of Texas City

The City of Texas City will close all city facilities, offices and services on Monday, July 8, due to the expected landfall and impacts of Tropical Storm Beryl. In addition, the Texas City Dike is now closed. There will not be any garbage collection on Monday, and all camps and recreation activities have been canceled. The City of Texas City hopes to reopen all facilities for regular business hours on Tuesday, July 9, if weather/conditions improve.

Lake Conroe

The San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) and Montgomery County Constable Precinct 1 announce that Lake Conroe will be temporarily closed at 2 p.m. for the safety of boaters and first responders due to Hurricane Beryl. SJRA has activated 24-hour protocols and will remain activated throughout the weather event. We will continue to monitor the forecast. We are in coordination with the City of Houston, Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service.

University of Houston Clear Lake

Due to the approaching impact of Tropical Storm Beryl, University of Houston-Clear Lake, including Pearland and the Texas Medical Center locations, will be closing on Monday, July 8. All classes, activities, and business operations scheduled for this date are canceled. This closure encompasses all campus events, meetings, and routine business functions. An update regarding class and operational status for Tuesday, July 9 will be issued tomorrow. Students and employees are encouraged to keep their professors and supervisors informed should weather impact their ability to attend class or work on Tuesday.

Humble ISD

Humble ISD will be CLOSED on Monday, July 8, 2024, due to Beryl’s potential impact as it moves through the Houston area. Hazardous driving conditions and power outages are possible. Students and staff should remain home. There will be no summer school classes, camps or activities. All buildings and campuses will be closed Monday as a precautionary measure.

Needville ISD

Due to inclement weather, Needville ISD will be closed Monday. July 8.

Katy ISD

All Katy ISD campuses and facilities will be closed on Monday, July 8 due to projected hazardous weather conditions. Exempt employees currently on contract will work remotely tomorrow, unless previously scheduled for personal time off. Non-exempt hourly employees will be contacted by their supervisor for any essential personnel needs. Katy ISD anticipates resuming districtwide operations on Tuesday, July 9. Other schedule updates and changes regarding before/after school athletics, fine arts, camps and other activities, will be shared directly by coaches, sponsors, and program administrators.

Tomball ISD

Out of an abundance of caution and the uncertainty surrounding TS Beryl, Tomball ISD will be closed Monday, July 8, 2024. The closure includes all schools and facilities, summer school, camps, and activities. Please reach out to your supervisor or camp contact for information regarding rescheduling. Tomball ISD is expected to reopen on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Alief Independent School District

The district has been continuously monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Beryl over the past few days. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of our staff and students, we have made the decision to close the district tomorrow, July 8th. We will continue to monitor the weather and share any updates on the resuming of business by the end of the day tomorrow.

Royal ISD

Royal ISD will be closed on Monday, July 8. Royal ISD will still hold the July 8 board meeting at 6:30pm, weather permitting. All student activities and travel on July 8 have been canceled.

Spring Branch ISD

All Spring Branch ISD summer programs are cancelled for Monday, July 8, and all district offices and facilities will be closed Monday, July 8, 2024, due to potential threat of hazardous weather and related conditions due to Tropical Storm Beryl. Please monitor the SBISD website and social media sites for updates as this storm moves through our area. Essential staff will be notified by their supervisor.

Spring ISD

All Spring ISD schools and offices will be closed Monday, July 8, due to the threat of hazardous weather related to Tropical Storm Beryl, which is expected to strengthen to hurricane status before Texas landfall. There will be no summer school classes on Monday. We are making this decision based on the latest forecast and recommendations by weather authorities that Houston-area communities should prepare for worsening weather conditions and the high potential of heavy rains, flooding and power outages throughout the area.

Space Center Houston

For the safety of our crew and guests, Space Center Houston will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024. All tours, experiences, camps, and events are canceled. We appreciate our guests’ patience and support and will provide updates as we continue to closely monitor weather conditions.

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD

Due to the forecast for heavy rain, possible flooding, and winds associated with Beryl, and for the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community, all CFISD campuses and buildings will be closed on Monday, July 8. All summer school classes, camps, staff trainings, and other activities are canceled. Stay tuned to the district website, social media and School Messenger for updates.

Fort Bend ISD

Due to the threat of severe weather related to the storm in the Gulf, Fort Bend ISD will be closed on Monday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 9, 2024. FBISD will always keep safety as its top consideration when making district wide closure decisions. Staff and parents are urged to monitor the district’s social media pages and website for updates.

Texas City ISD

Due to the severe weather conditions expected from Hurricane Beryl, Texas City ISD is cancelling all work and student activities for Monday, July 8. As conditions are expected to improve by Monday afternoon and evening, our current plan is for employees to return on Tuesday, and student activities to resume on Wednesday.

Houston ISD

This is an important message from the Houston Independent School District for students, parents, and staff. HISD is closing all campuses and buildings Monday, July 8, and Tuesday, July 9, due to Tropical storm Beryl and its potential impacts to our region. All summer classes and activities are canceled, and all District activities and events – including professional development and recruiting sessions – are canceled.

Houston Zoo

Alvin Community College

Due to the impact of Hurricane Beryl, ACC is closed and classes canceled for Monday, July 8. Please stay tuned to the ACC social media and website for further details. For the latest information, please refer to the ACC website: www.alvincollege.edu.

Brazosport College

Due to the anticipated weather expected from Hurricane Beryl, all Brazosport College classes and operations, including the Bill & Julia May Children’s Center, will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024. Kids Colleges for Ages 6-8 will also be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024. Final exams for the First Summer Term (First Six Weeks) are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, 2024, with grades being due by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The last day to withdraw from classes for the Summer I (Eight Weeks) term has been extended to July 10, 2024. Additionally, classes for the Second Summer Term (Second Six Weeks) will begin on Monday, July 15, 2024.

University of Houston-Victoria

UHV Victoria Campus will be closed on Monday, July 8th, 2024, due to the potential impact of Hurricane Beryl. This closure is out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and faculty. All UHV operations, classes, events, and activities are cancelled. We will provide an update on the status of the campus reopening by Monday afternoon. UHV Katy will remain open at this time.

San Jacinto College

San Jacinto College will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024, for all classes, operations and activities. The closure will begin at 7 p.m., on Sunday, July 7.

Wharton County Junior College

Due to Hurricane Beryl, Wharton County Junior College will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024.

All classes and activities are cancelled for July 8th. Monitor wcjc.edu for updates.

Crosby ISD

Crosby ISD will be closed Monday July 8th due to the concern of Hurricane Beryl’s arrival.. In addition, the 21st Century Summer Program and all other summer student activities are canceled for Monday, July 8. We ask all of our families to stay safe and be weather aware in the coming days..

College of the Mainland

Due to the approaching impact of Hurricane Beryl, College of the Mainland (COM) will be closed on Monday, July 8. All classes and campus operations at all COM locations are canceled at this time.

Hitchcock ISD

In response to the anticipated impact of tropical storm/hurricane Beryl, Hitchcock ISD will be closed on Monday, July 8th. This closure includes any planned summer camps or practices. The safety of students, staff, and the community is our top priority.

Cleveland ISD

Out of an abundance of caution due to the forecasted weather conditions for the greater Houston area, all Cleveland ISD campuses and facilities will be CLOSED on Monday, July 8th. This includes all summer activities, trainings, workshops, and professional development events.

We will inform the community about the plans for Tuesday, July 9th in the near future.

Dickinson ISD

Due to potential inclement weather from Tropical Storm Beryl, Dickinson ISD will close on Monday, July 8. This includes summer employees and all student activities. Please check the district website and social media for updates regarding Tuesday. Stay safe!

Friendswood ISD

Due to the forecast of inclement weather, all Friendswood ISD facilities and operations will be closed on Monday, July 8.

Willis ISD

All Willis ISD offices, schools, and summer programs will be closed on Monday, July 8 due to the anticipated impact of Tropical Storm Beryl, which is expected to make landfall as a potential hurricane on Monday morning along the Texas coast. The Board of Trustees meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, July 15 at 4:30 pm. The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management advises all residents to stay home if possible. Your safety is our priority. Please take the necessary precautions today and stay safe.

Conroe ISD

Conroe ISD offices, campuses, and summer programs will be closed tomorrow, Monday, July 8, due to the forecast impact of Hurricane Beryl. Stay safe!

Harris County Courts At Law

Harris County Criminal and Civil Courts at Law will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024, due to the potential for inclement weather and dangerous road conditions.

All cases set for Monday will be rescheduled. This includes:

  • Criminal misdemeanor cases set on the dockets for each of the 16 Harris County Criminal Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Criminal Courts at Law Associate Judge David Singer.
  • Civil cases set on dockets for each of the four Harris County Civil Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Civil Courts at Law Associate Judge Jermaine Thomas.

Galveston College

Due to the inclement weather that is anticipated to reach the Texas coast in the upcoming hours due to Tropical Storm Beryl and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, faculty and staff, Galveston College will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024.

All classes, activities and operations for Monday, July 8 are canceled.

The closure includes both the GC main campus, located at 4015 Avenue Q, and the GC Applied Technology Center (ATC), located at 7626 Broadway Street, in Galveston.

It is anticipated that GC will re-open on Tuesday, July 9, for regular business hours and the first day of Summer II classes.

During this time, the GC Emergency Management Team will continue to monitor the weather.

Prairie View A&M

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Harris and Waller counties. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is paramount. As a result, all PVAMU campuses are closed on Monday, July 8, due to the inclement weather expected from Tropical Storm Beryl.

Galena Park ISD

Due to anticipated inclement weather from Tropical Storm Beryl, Galena Park ISD will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024. All campuses, transportation services, and the administration building will be closed.

Angleton ISD

Due to the inclement weather starting this afternoon, Angleton ISD will be closed tomorrow, Monday, July 8. We will continue to assess the situation and any damage to the district after the storm and will communicate about when we will re-open the district. Please stay safe!

Houston Christian University

In light of Hurricane Beryl, Houston Christian University is CLOSED tomorrow, Monday, July 8, 2024. Due to inclement weather, all on-campus classes are canceled and University offices are closed. Online classes will continue as scheduled.

Fort Bend County Offices

Fort Bend County Judge KP George today announced that due to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Beryl, all Fort Bend County offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Fort Bend County offices and facilities are expected to return to normal operations on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The Fort Bend County Judge’s Office and the Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the night and will provide updates on county operations should status changes be required.

“The safety and well-being of our county residents and employees are our top priority and this is the best decision to safeguard everyone. I urge everyone to stay informed and prepared in the face of this severe weather emergency,” stated Judge George.

Sam Houston State University

All Sam Houston State University locations will close Monday (7/8) out of an abundance of caution as Beryl approaches the Texas coast. Face-to-face classes are cancelled.
