A poem about going away to college

I’m Kayden Ferris, I'm a senior at CMSD and this is my poem about college. I wrote it for high schoolers transitioning out of K-12, or who are otherwise considering going to college. My hope is they know things will turn out okay!

---

Everyone in a rush

Quick to get things done

Your world is around the corner

Your future's just begun

Hold off a little while

And take a look around

The memories we held as a child

Scattered across the ground

Stand still and you’ll remember

What was begging to be found

A childlike wonder is what we all seek

The imagination and pureness are what

Kept us alive, and on our feet

I feel like we’re alive but don’t live

For the fear of letting go

But how can we share wisdom

If we’re too afraid of new things we can know

College is just one step away

From the life we will live

The world has so much to offer us

And so much love to give

The friends we will leave from school

And memories miles away

One day I hope we will meet

And I'll see a familiar face

They say success is failure turned inside out

The pressure of being perfect

And the consistent self-doubt

But don’t worry your time is coming

And you're on the right route

Stick to your heart and mind

It’ll lead you the right way

Thinking with others will lead you astray

Heed my advice

College is just a day away
