CLEVELAND, Ohio — With the start of the NFL season only a couple months away, it’ll take a bit longer for Cam Sutton to start his season. The Pittsburgh cornerback was suspended without pay by the NFL for the first eight games of the season, due to violating the the league’s personal-conduct policy.
Sutton’s suspension comes months after an alleged domestic violence incident back in March, which led to criminal charges being filed.

Coming off a productive season with Detroit, he was released by the Lions in March after being accused of domestic battery by strangulation on his girlfriend in the state of Florida. There was an arrest warrant out for Sutton, who eventually turned himself in.
However, he was released shortly after the domestic violence incident made headlines in March, before signing with Pittsburgh in June.
He was originally charged with a felony, but the charges were reduced to misdemeanor battery.
Instead of prepping ahead of Week 1′s road trip in Atlanta, Sutton will have to wait until their Week 9 bye week to be reinstated, in which his season debut could likely come in Week 10 on the road versus Washington.
Drafted by Pittsburgh in 2017, Sutton starred there for six seasons and had a productive 2022 season with 43 tackles and 15 passes defended, tying for sixth in the latter statistical category.
He then signed a three-year deal with Detroit, where he became an integral part of their defense during the 2023 season, helping them advance to the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991.
The Browns play the Steelers in Cleveland on Thursday night of Week 12, Nov. 21; and then have a rematch in Pittsburgh on Dec. 8.
