Mississippi has 25 state parks and they're literally from one end of the state to the other. So, no matter where you live, there's one not too far away.

Each of them offers something different. Some have lakes for fishing and skiing, some have golf courses and disc golf and almost all of them have overnight accommodations to suit most anyone's tastes from primitive camping to newly remodeled cabins.

But it's summer and this is Mississippi and that means blazing heat. Fortunately, Mississippi's state parks have you covered on that front, too. Some have swimming pools, some have splash pads and one has a full-blown waterpark that's fun for children and parents alike.

So, below are five state parks where you can unwind, cool down and have fun this summer despite the afternoon heat and some of their amenities to enjoy.
