The photo on the appliance, seen July 5, 2024, shows the original damage. The bullet dent on the current refrigerator in the house was recreated for the 1988 movie Mississippi Burning.

Beckwith shot and killed Medgar Evers in his driveway June 12, 1963. Two all-white, male juries reached no verdict in the 1960's and De La Beckwith was set free. The case was reopened in December of 1990. De La Beckwith was found guilty in 1994 and sentenced to life in prison. He died in custody at the age of 80 on Jan. 21, 2001.

The Elraine Subdivision, where the Evers Home and Myrlie's Garden are located, was built between 1955 and 1957 in Jackson, Miss. A perminent exhibit about Elraine stands in Myrlie's Garden at 3611 Missouri St., Jackson, Miss. Author and educator Margaret Walker Alexander bought the first home in 1955. The Evers bought their home on Guynes St., now named Margaret W. Alexander Dr.
