Hugh Hogue, born on March 5, 1946, in Carthage, Mississippi, passed away on June 18, 2024, in Brandon, Mississippi. He was 78 years old.

Hugh was the beloved husband of the late Jane Baxter Hogue, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage until her passing in 2016. He is survived by his three children, Emily, Baxter, and Warren, and his daughter-in-law, Courtney. Hugh was a proud grandfather to Abby, Owen, and Julia Hogue, and Michael and Jane Ellen Krause.

Hugh enjoyed a distinguished career as a commercial real estate appraiser, earning the MAI designation. He retired in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of professional excellence and integrity.

Hugh was an avid fisherman and vegetable gardener. Hugh also enjoyed historical fiction, history, and biographies, often sharing his love for books with those around him.

Hugh was a master storyteller. From recounting tales of his childhood in Carthage to his days working on a tugboat, he had a knack for bringing stories to life. His humor and warmth endeared him to everyone he met, making friends wherever he went.

A lover of classic Westerns like "Gunsmoke" and "Wagon Train" and a fan of Clint Eastwood movies, Hugh had an extensive record collection that showcased his eclectic taste in music. He passed on his love for artists like Leon Russell, Joni Mitchell, Waylon Jennings, and Jerry Jeff Walker to his children.

Hugh's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for life's many stories. He will be remembered for his ability to make others feel at ease, his infectious sense of humor, and the joy he brought to those around him.

A celebration of Hugh's life will be held on June 29 at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11. Donations in his memory may be made to Stewpot Communities Services, www.stewpot.org, and The Little Lighthouse https://www.llhms.org/, in lieu of flowers.
