Walks in the City

Exploring the City on foot is one of the best ways to see the world-famous sights, and to experience the culture, history and heritage of the City of London.

Guided Walking Tours

Have you considered joining a guided walking tour? Official City of London Guides run daily walking tours with different themes and locations to help you make the most of your visit. The guides are experts in the City's 2000 year history. For City regulars, it's a great chance to find out something new about the City - and discover places you might not have been before. Many of these walks start from the City Information Centre, and must be booked in advance.

Popular Tours include:

  • Choose the City Highlights tour to see the top sights.
  • See Christopher Wren's amazing architecture across many of the City's historic churches on the "City In Spires" tour.
  • Find out about life in Roman London, and see key sites in Roman history.
  • Literary themed tours:
    • NEW! From Shakespeare to Oscar Wilde - find out about famous writers and their experiences of life in the City of London.
    • Explore the City of Dr Samuel Johnson, author of the modern dictionary, who lived and worked here in 1700's.
    • Follow in Charles Dickens' Footsteps - this walk covers Dickens' own life, and events from his novels.
  • The Dark Side of the City guided walk - join a tour that tells the tales of crime and punishment, executions and excess - Fridays

New guided walks from April 2024, City of London Guides will be running two guided walks per day from the City Information Centre, with three new themes joining their regular schedule of favourites: Secrets and Symbols, News from Fleet Street, and From Shakespeare to Oscar Wilde.
