A full list of all of the road closures and roadworks across the North East this week

There are a number of road closures in place across the North East this week.

Some roads are closed while others have lane closures. Temporary traffic measures or diversion routes may also be in place on roads in the region. Motorists are urged to make allowances for these closures and alter their travel arrangements if necessary.

Newcastle

• Traffic taking turns in Walkerville due to gas main work on Marmion Road at Greencroft Avenue. Until July 8.

• Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work in South Denton on West Denton Road near Lepidina Close. Until July 8.

• Temporary traffic lights in Chapel Park due to telecoms work on Greenway at Glendale Close. Until July 9.

• One lane closed in Newcastle city centre due to gas main work on The A193 New Bridge Street Eastbound from Argyle Street to Stoddart Street. Expect delays. Until July 11.

• One lane of the A167 Tyne Bridge closed due to roadworks in both directions between Hawks Road and Swan House Roundabout. Until April 4, 2025.

• Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50 mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass Westbound from J65 (Birtley) to J67 (Coalhouse Roundabout). Expect delays. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until May 31, 2025.

Northumberland

• Traffic taking turns in Stakeford due to roadworks on Leander Avenue in both directions near Thirlmoor Place. Until July 9.

• Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on Western Way at Brooklands. Until 11pm on July 9.

• The B6320 in Otterburn closed in both directions due to roadworks from the A696 (Otterburn) to the A68 (Bellingham). Until August 2.

• Bridge Street closed in Blyth due to roadworks from B1329 to B1327 Union Street. Until November 15.

• Common Bank in Bearsbridge closed in both directions due to roadworks between the A686 and Thornley Gate. Until May 15 2025.

North Tyneside

• New traffic lights and gas main work in South Shields on Hartford Road at Brampton Road. Until 11pm on July 16.

• Traffic taking turns in South Shields due to gas main work on Fenwick Avenue at Wenlock Road. Until 11pm on July 21.

• Temporary traffic lights in South Shields due to roadworks on Tudor Road at Wilson Street. Until 7pm on August 7.

• Temporary traffic lights in Hebburn due to gas main work on Glen Street at North Farm Road. Expect delays. Until August 21.

• Contraflow and roadworks in Jarrow at the A19 Tyne Tunnel in both directions from A194 Leam Lane (Lindisfarne Roundabout, Jarrow) to A193 Tynemouth Road (Howdon Roundabout, North Shields). Between 12.01am and 11:59pm on Sundays until March 3 2025.

Sunderland

• Burdon Lane in Ryhope closed due to roadworks from Nettles Lane (Ryhope) to Burdon Road (Burdon). Until May 8, 2025.

• Easington Street closed in both directions due to roadworks from Sheepfolds North to Richmond Street. Until September 30.

County Durham
