A police investigation continues after a man was found unconscious in Gateshead on Friday night.

Northumbria Police officers are currently working to establish the events which have left a man in a critical condition after falling unconscious. Two women and a man, all aged in their 30s, were arrested as part of enquiries into the incident and have since been released on bail.

The man, who is in his 40s, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Gateshead, where he remains in a critical condition. Police officers remain at the scene on Sunday morning after being called to the incident on Lumley Gardens, in Felling, at approximately 9.50pm on Friday.


Forensics were witnessed carrying out investigations in the area on Saturday morning and continue to work at the scene on Sunday. Police are urging anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At about 9.50pm on Friday (March 1) we received a report of a man unconscious in the Lumley Gardens area of Gateshead. The man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"An investigation is currently under way to establish the events leading up to him becoming unconscious. As part of our enquiries, three people were arrested – two women and a man, all aged in their 30s – and have since been released on bail.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact police using the ‘Report’ page on the Northumbria Police website or call 101, quoting log number NP-20240301-1103."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a person unwell on Lumley Gardens, Felling, shortly before 10pm last night (Friday 1 March).

"We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic and a clinical team leader. One patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
