The Commissioner’s Office of the Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Thursday strongly condemned the White House’s move to extend the so-called “emergency status” of the HKSAR, urging it to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs.

On Wednesday, United States President Joe Biden again extended the “national emergency” status for the HKSAR, claiming that the SAR’s situation has posed a threat to the country’s national security, foreign policy, and economy.

Under the executive order, the HKSAR cannot continue to enjoy special economic treatment that had been granted by US laws, and may not import sensitive technologies from the US.

In a statement issued on Thursday morning, the Office expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the US move, urging it to cease the delusion of persecution.

The office stated that with the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, Hong Kong has entered a new stage of economic development, and it has integrated into the nation’s development more closely.

Hong Kong will better leverage its role as an international financial, trade, and shipping center, providing enhanced opportunities and benefits to the world.

The US has repeatedly disparaged the concept of national security and made unfounded comments on Hong Kong’s situation. The continuous unilateral sanctions have exposed the hypocrisy of American politicians. Their plot of using the HKSAR to contain China is doomed to failure, said the Office.
