A juvenile from New York City accused of phoning in a threat against a Naperville high school this month was charged with aggravated harassment in New York, according to Naperville police.

On Oct. 15, Naperville police received a report that an individual called Naperville North High School with a threat against the school. As a result, the school was put on a soft lockdown and students and staff were dismissed early to ensure safety.

Naperville police said its investigators worked with federal law enforcement and the New York Police Department to identify a juvenile from New York City as the caller.

NYPD took over jurisdiction in the case, and the youth subsequently was charged with aggravated harassment, Naperville police said.

“The Naperville Police Department will continue to tirelessly investigate and pursue charges against anyone who makes a threat to our schools,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said. “Children deserve to learn in a safe environment and when parents send their children to school, they want to know their kids are safe. No matter what their intentions might be, individuals who make these types of threats rob this community of its sense of safety, and this department will never take such actions lightly.”
