A fire at a home in unincorporated Mundelein left two firefighters injured and the dwelling uninhabitable after a blaze broke out toward the back of house Saturday morning, according to fire officials.

Officials responded to a call of a structure fire at around 9:20 a.m. Saturday in the 26000 block of Maple Avenue in unincorporated Mundelein, according to a news release from the Countryside Fire Protection District. The district provides fire and emergency medical services to all or parts of Vernon Hills, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Indian Creek and some unincorporated areas of Lake County.

When the emergency responders arrived, fire crews found the roof toward the back of the house on fire and a power line was down in the backyard. After ComEd — the electricity utility company — secured the line, firefighters were able to enter the home and put the fire out, according to the release.

Two firefighters were injured battling the blaze, with one requesting to go to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other did not require treatment. The occupants of the home had left the house before fire officials arrived, said CFPD Battalion Chief Russ Bach.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Bach said.

In putting out the fire, CFPD was helped by emergency responders from Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Wauconda, Long Grove, Lake Forest, Deerfield, Highland Park, North Chicago, Wheeling, Barrington, Glenview, Northbrook, Gurnee, Palatine Rural, Cary, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, McHenry, Nunda and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, according to the release.

The Red Cross is assisting the family, officials said.
