COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 6.3.24
COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 6.3.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. W.E.B. Du Bois End of the School Year Block Party – 6.4.24
COPA had a great time attending the W.E.B. Du Bois Elementary School end-of-the-year block party. This event was hosted by the People for Community Recovery, Playstreets, and the Chicago Department of Public Health. COPA was able to set up a resource table at this event to explain the work that we do and help students and staff understand our role in police accountability.
Westside Forward Justice Resource Fair – 6.5.24
COPA attended the Westside Forward Justice Resource Fair in Humboldt Park on June 5th. At this outreach event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency’s role in police misconduct. This event also included vendors that shared information on legal representation training, job placement assistance, and resume writing.
Mobile City Hall at Jackson Park – 6.5.24
COPA joined the Office of the City Clerk along with various other city departments and sister agencies to connect with the community. At this mobile outreach event held in the Woodlawn community, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability.
Westside Ministers’ Coalition Monthly Community Meeting – 6.6.24
COPA had a great time attending the Westside Ministers’ Coalition monthly community meeting. This organization’s mission is to provide services that will initiate self-help efforts to improve the Austin community of Chicago in areas of housing, public safety, reentry, clergy involvement, education, health, energy, conservation, community, youth, and economic development to work in cooperation with other organizations sharing similar values.
Beidler Elementary End of the School Year Block Party – 6.6.24
COPA had a great time attending the Saint Stephen Community Center & Playstreets Block Party end-of-the-year celebration held at Beidler Elementary School in East Garfield Park. COPA was able to set up a resource table at this event to help youth, staff, and residents in this area understand our role in police accountability.
Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly Senior Summit – 6.6.24
COPA had a great time attending the H.O.M.E (Housing Opportunities & Maintenance for the Elderly) Senior Summit. There was a panel at this event that focused on advocating for seniors and people with disabilities. COPA provided information on our role in police accountability.
Mobile City Hall at Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences– 6.8.24
COPA was able to talk to residents in the Mt. Greenwood community at the Mobile City Hall event. The Clerk’s Office along with various other city departments and sister agencies was also present and provided the community with valuable city resources. While at this event, COPA was able to set up a resource table and share with the public the agency’s role in police reform.
Día del Niño Celebración in Belmont Cragin – 6.8.24
COPA had a great time participating at the Día del Niño Celebración held in Hanson Park which was coordinated by the Northwest Side CDC. COPA had a great time giving out information on our role in police accountability. There were lots of activities and giveaways along with community organizations at this event.
