COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 6.23.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 6.23.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Austin My Chi My Future Community Meeting – June 26, 2024

COPA was at the Project Exploration & Austin Experience My Chi My Future Community Meeting. COPA was engaging community stakeholders and leaders in Austin to discuss ways to best support young people and their families.

Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council Playstreets Block Party – June 26, 2024

            COPA had a great time at the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council Playstreets Block Party that was Sponsored by the Chicago Department of Public Health. COPA was able to set up a resource table to share with residents in this area our agency mission and help them understand the importance of police oversight. The event was filled with food, children’s activities, several community organizations, and Zumba classes. Our very own COPA Community Engagement Interns were able to coordinate a series of cornhole games with children and adults to join in the festivities.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – June 27, 2024

COPA had a great time attending the Northwest Community Alliance Monthly Meeting hosted by Family Focus.  Our agency was able to meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Latino communities on the Northwest side of Chicago. During the meeting COPA also shared with meeting attendees the role that we play in police oversight.

Gage Park Community Meeting – June 27, 2024

COPA was invited to present by our community partner CirceEsteem, a My Chi My Future partner organization at their monthly meeting. COPA was able to present on the history of civilian oversight, our agency jurisdiction, and our overall role in police accountability. Residents and partner organizations were able to ask questions about our agency and how to file complaints and compliments towards the Chicago Police Department.

New Life Centers Beloved Community Bash – June 28, 2024

COPA had a great time attending the New Life Centers Beloved Community Bash at Harding Park. This event including a petting zoo, several activities for children, a various community organizations were connecting residents to resources. COPA was able to give out information on how to file complaints and compliments towards the Chicago Police Department and our role in police accountability.

53rd Annual Chicago Pride Parade – June 30, 2024

COPA joined the celebration with the Chicago Mayor’s Office at the 53rd Annual Chicago Pride Parade. Over one million people gathered for the festivities in Lakeview celebrating the theme Pride is Power along the parade route.
