COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 6.17.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 6.17.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Juneteenth Job Fair & Know Your Rights Event – June 18, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Juneteenth Job Fair and Know Your Rights event held on Tuesday, June 18th at the southwest corner of 63rd and Halsted. We were able to help people learn more about our agency. Residents who attended this event were able to learn about job openings, various community resources, and get help with the expungement and sealing process. This event also featured free barbers, free food, giveaways, live music, and many fun activities.

Nobel Neighbors Community Monthly Meeting – June 18, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting held on June 18, 2024. During the summer months this organization holds its meeting at various community organizations in the Humboldt Park area. For the month of June, the meeting was held at The Bloc (1345 N. Karlov), which is a community organization that focuses on spreading the love of boxing to provide life-changing opportunities to youth in Chicago. Each month COPA looks forward to coming together and connecting with many community stakeholders and residents at these monthly meetings.

Fellowship Chicago’s Juneteenth Block Party – June 19, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Fellowship Chicago’s Juneteenth Block Party held in the Fuller Park area. This event was filled with food, live music, black businesses, family activities, and many community resources. COPA was able to set up a resource table to help residents in this area understand our role in police accountability.

North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN) Annual Summer Hiring & Resource Fair – June 20, 2024
COPA had a great time joining the North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN) and Skills for Chicagoland’s Future for its Annual Summer Hiring and Resource Fair. COPA was able to set up a resource table to share with residents in this area our agency mission, help them understand the importance of police oversight, and inform them of job openings we currently have available.

Xilin Neighborhood Fair – June 22, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the Xilin Neighborhood Fair held on June 22, 2024, to share with members of the community the role the agency plays in police oversight. This event provided Chicagoans living in Bridgeport, Pilsen, and Chinatown with an opportunity to enjoy several community resource tables, family activities, live music, games, and food.
