  • Patriots' Sione Takitaki: Opens camp on PUP list

The Patriots placed Takitaki (knee) on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Per Reiss, Takitaki is recovering from a knee scope procedure during the offseason. The 2019 third-round pick out of BYU signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Patriots in March of 2024 after spending the first five years of his NFL career with the Browns. In 2023, Takitaki posted 66 tackles (45 solo), including 2.0 sacks, three pass deflections and one interception across 15 regular-season games. He'll be eligible to practice and play in the preseason once activated off the active/PUP list.

  • Patriots' Davon Godchaux: Present at training camp

Godchaux reported to Patriots training camp Tuesday, Douglas Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.

On his personal X account in June, Godchaux said that he "would love to retire" in New England and has been seeking a contract extension during the offseason. After spending his first four years in the league with the Dolphins, Godchaux signed with the Patriots in 2021, and he has played in every single regular-season game over the last three years, posting 56 tackles (24 solo) and one fumble recovery in 2023.

  • Patriots' Matthew Judon: Reports to training camp

Judon reported to Patriots' training camp Tuesday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.

The Patriots previously offered a contract to Judon, but the two sides still appear to be far apart on a new deal, per Henry McKenna of FoxSports.com. Judon is set to make $6.5 million in the final year of his contract, and he's coming off a 2023 campaign in which he missed the final 13 regular-season games due to a torn biceps. The 2016 fifth-round pick is still one of the most formidable pass rushers in the league, having registered 28.0 sacks across 2021 and 2022. For now, it appears Judon is willing to participate in training camp while negotiating a new deal.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Lands on NFI list

Gibson (undisclosed) has been placed on the Patriots' active/non-football injury list, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Gibson's unspecified issue will prevent him from practicing as training camp commences, but once he's cleared to re-take the field, he'll work toward cementing a key complementary role in New England's backfield alongside returning starter Rhamondre Stevenson. Given that the Patriots are slated to start the season with a new top QB (either Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye) and that there's uncertainly with regard to how the team's pass-catching corps will shake out, it's reasonable to expect that a ground game featuring Stevenson and Gibson could pace the attack early on in the 2024 campaign.

  • Patriots' Kendrick Bourne: Opens camp on PUP list

Bourne (knee) will open training camp on the active/PUP list, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Bourne is bouncing back from a torn right ACL that he suffered last October, so it's not especially surprising that he isn't quite ready to practice as training camp opens. Previous reports relayed that Bourne anticipated being ready for Week 1 action, but while he's unavailable, DeMario Douglas, Ja'Lynn Polk, K.J. Osborn, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Javon Baker, Jalen Reagor and Tyquan Thornton are slated to compete for slotting in the Patriots' re-tooled WR corps.

  • Patriots' Drake Maye: Behind Brissett to begin camp

Coach Jerod Mayo said Tuesday that Maye will have a chance to earn the Week 1 starting job even though Jacoby Brissett is viewed as the Patriots' No. 1 quarterback, Chris Mason of MassLive.com reports.

"If [Maye] comes out here and he lights it up... it could absolutely happen," Mayo said, before adding that Bailey Zappe or Joe Milton could also win the job if they play well enough this summer. It's a lot of coach-speak, but the main point seems to be that Brissett will get most of the first-team reps early in training camp. Mayo also denied that concerns about the New England offensive line could factor into the QB decision, which is what you'd expect him to say publicly even if it isn't true. That said, Maye's status as the third overall pick in this year's draft means he'll almost certainly make starts at some point this season, even if the O-line struggles or other circumstances make immediate success unlikely.

  • Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Viewed as starter

Patriots coach Jerod Mayo reiterated Tuesday that Brissett is viewed as the team's starting quarterback, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Mayo said, "I don't think there's any doubt," when reporters asked him about Brissett's standing at the top of the depth chart at the beginning of training camp. No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye will almost certainly get playing time this season, and possibly sooner rather than later, but the combination of a shaky offensive line and a veteran alternative at QB could inspire the Patriots to be more patient than other franchises might be with a top-five pick. The two guys drafted ahead of Maye this spring, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, appear well on their way to Week 1 starts.

  • Patriots' Jontrey Hunter: Goes on active/NFI list

The Patriots placed Hunter (undisclosed) on the active/non-football injury list Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Hunter was signed by New England as an undrafted free agent in May after he played six seasons with Georgia State. The nature of the injury that landed him on the NFI list is unclear, but the 24-year-old will be able to return to practice when the issue is resolved.

  • Patriots' Terrell Jennings: Lands on PUP list

The Patriots placed Jennings on the active/PUP list Friday with an undisclosed injury, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Jennings landed in New England as an undrafted free agent in May, and it looks like he picked up an injury somewhere along the way. He will be eligible to come off the PUP list once his health allows. Once he does that, the rookie will compete for a depth role in New England's backfield.
