  • Vikings' DeWayne McBride: Comes off NFI list

McBride (undisclosed) was activated off the Vikings' active/non-football injury list Wednesday, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

McBride's injury must have not been serious, as the 23-year-old running back spent just two days on Minnesota's active/non-football injury list before activation. Now that the UAB product has returned to form, he's expected to compete with Myles Gaskin and Kene Nwangwu for a depth role in the Vikings' backfield.

  • Vikings' Christian Darrisaw: Signs massive extension

Darrisaw and the Vikings agreed on a four-year, $113 million contract extension Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Darrisaw still had two years remaining on his rookie contract after being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but considering he's one of the best left tackles in the league, Minnesota was smart to lock him up long term. The offensive lineman will get $77 million in guaranteed money, which is the highest total for anyone at his position in the NFL.

  • Vikings' DeWayne McBride: Heads to NFI list

The Vikings placed McBride (undisclosed) on their active/non-football injury list Monday.

The nature and severity of McBride's injury is currently unknown, but he'll now begin Minnesota's training camp on the NFI list. McBride, a 2023 seventh-round pick out of UAB, is still eligible to practice or play at any point in the preseason, but this injury could jeopardize the 23-year-old's chances at making the Vikings' 53-man roster.

  • Vikings' T.J. Hockenson: Officially shifts to PUP list

The Vikings placed Hockenson (knee) on the active/PUP list Monday.

The transaction confirms an announcement by coach Kevin O'Connell earlier Monday. Hockenson is eligible to come off the PUP list at any point during training camp or the preseason, once he's ready to practice, but given the timing of his late-January procedure to repair a torn ACL, the 27-year-old tight end seems like a real candidate to miss some time early in the regular season. Josh Oliver, Robert Tonyan and Johnny Mundt will be candidates to benefit from increased first-team reps as long as Hockenson remains sidelined.

  • Vikings' NaJee Thompson: Lands on PUP list

The Vikings placed Thompson (knee) on the active/PUP list Monday.

Thompson has been dealing with a knee issue since the beginning of January, which has now caused him to land on Minnesota's PUP list. The second-year cornerback is still eligible to practice and play in the preseason at any point, but his placement on the PUP indicates he's not fully past his knee injury just yet. Expect Thompson to compete for a special-teams role as the offseason progresses.

  • Vikings' Andrew Van Ginkel: Close to return

Van Ginkel (foot) is "close" to participating fully in training camp, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Van Ginkel sustained a foot injury during the Dolphins' regular-season finale that held him out of the team's playoff loss to the Chiefs, but it now seems as if he's nearing a return to the field. The Wisconsin product inked a two-year, $20 million deal with the Vikings earlier this offseason, and he's expected to serve as one of the team's top edge rushers once he returns to full health.

  • Vikings' T.J. Hockenson: Will start camp on PUP list

Coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that Hockenson (knee) will start training camp on the active/PUP list, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

O'Connell said Hockenson is "well ahead of schedule" in his recovery from ACL surgery that he underwent in late January, per Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, but he also said "the significant injury that it was, we want to make sure everything is done the right way." It sounds like the Vikings will continue taking a cautious approach while working Hockenson back into action, and given that the standout tight end still remains without a timetable to return, his availability for Week 1 remains up in the air. Once he's back on the field, it could take Hockenson some time to ramp up to pre-injury form in terms of production, so it won't be surprising if he gets off to a slow start when he's healthy, then improves down the stretch of the 2024 season.
