  • Browns' Dalvin Tomlinson: Shifts to PUP list

The Browns placed Tomlinson (knee) on the active/PUP list Wednesday.

Tomlinson now seems to be dealing with a knee injury that will sideline him for the beginning of Cleveland's training camp. The veteran defensive tackle is coming off a productive first year with the Browns, posting 28 total tackles, including 3.0 sacks across 16 appearances in 2023. Once Tomlinson returns to form, he's expected to remain the Browns' top interior defensive lineman.

  • Browns' D'Anthony Bell: Heads to PUP list

The Browns placed Bell (shin) on the active/PUP list Wednesday.

Despite Bell's placement on the active/PUP list, he's eligible to practice or play at any point this preseason. The 27-year-old appeared in 17 games in 2023, recording 28 total tackles and four passes defended, including two interceptions. Bell is expected to compete for another depth role in the Browns' secondary once he returns to full health.

  • Browns' Greg Newsome: Heads to NFI list

The Browns placed Newsome (hamstring) on the active/non-football injury list Wednesday.

The fourth-year cornerback seems to be dealing with a hamstring issue, but he's still eligible to practice or play at any point throughout the preseason despite his placement on the active/non-football injury list. Newsome is coming off the best season of his young career in 2023, appearing in 14 games and recording 49 total tackles, including four tackles for loss, while also defending 14 passes, with two interceptions. Expect the Northwestern product to play another pivotal role in the Browns' secondary once he returns to full health.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Placed on NFI list

The Browns placed Hines (knee) on the active/non-football injury list Wednesday.

Hines said earlier this offseason that he anticipated being ready for training camp, so it's possible he won't spend much time on the NFI list before passing his physical. The pass-catching specialist is working his way back from a left ACL tear suffered last August, once healthy he figures to compete for a role on special teams and in third-down scenarios. Nick Chubb (knee) started camp on the active/PUP list and remains without a timetable for return, so Hines could have a real opportunity alongside Jerome Ford and D'Onta Foreman in this backfield, health permitting.

  • Browns' Nick Chubb: Officially shifts to PUP list

The Browns placed Chubb (knee) on the active/PUP list Wednesday.

Chubb will officially begin training camp on the PUP list, as expected. He can be activated at any point throughout camp or the preseason once ready to practice, and upon passing a physical. The 28-year-old running back is working his way back from a severe left knee injury, including two separate surgeries to repair his MCL and ACL. Chubb has made encouraging workout progress this offseason and is expected to be healthy and available for game action at some point during the 2024 campaign, but an actual timetable for his return remains undisclosed. In the meantime, Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong figure to handle the bulk of backfield reps at practice, with Nyheim Hines (knee) also working his way back from the active/non-football injury list.

  • Browns' Amari Cooper: Gets deal restructured

Cooper reported to training camp Tuesday after agreeing to a restructured deal with the Browns, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Per Cabot, Cooper is in line to get $5 million in new incentives as part of the deal, while his $20 million base salary is now guaranteed. With the agreement to amend the final year of his contract now in place, Cooper is set to reclaim his role as the top option in a Cleveland wideout corps that features newcomer Jerry Jeudy and returnees Elijah Moore, Cedric Tillman and David Bell.

  • Browns' Jerome Ford: Role depends on RB injuries

Ford's preseason and regular-season roles will depend on the health statuses of his injured teammates, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.

With Nick Chubb (knee) still recovering from knee surgery during the offseason, Ford handled first-team reps in spring workouts, and he likely heads into training camp as the lead back. The Browns could apply injury designations to Chubb and Nyheim Hines (knee) at the beginning of camp, which would cement Ford in the top spot for now. He could keep the job into the regular season if Chubb winds up on the reserve-PUP list, which would require him to miss at least the first four games of the schedule. Ford's role should sort itself out over the coming weeks.
