  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Three hits, three RBI in win

Butler went 3-for-4 with three RBI in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Angels.

Butler singled twice and laced a three-run double in the fourth inning for his third consecutive multi-hit effort. The outfielder has been ridiculous in July, tallying 10 extra-base hits and 22 RBI in 52 plate appearances. On the year, he is hitting .230 with nine homers, 30 RBI, 21 runs scored and six steals across 202 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Homers, stays hot in win

Rooker went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Angels.

Rooker crushed a three-run home run that traveled 445 feet in the first inning and then singled and scored in the fourth. He was intentionally walked in the seventh. The All-Star break didn't slow the 29-year-old down, and he's now logged eight multi-hit efforts in July with seven long balls and 18 RBI. On the season, he's hitting .294 with 22 homers, 65 RBI, 47 runs scored and five steals across 352 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Mitch Spence: Earns sixth win

Spence (6-6) earned the win over the Angels on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Spence allowed a run in the third inning and was pulled at 85 pitches after yielding another in the sixth. He generated only six swinging strikes but limited hard contact and received plenty of early run support. On the season, the 26-year-old owns a 4.67 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 75:26 K:BB across 88.2 innings and lines up for a rematch with the Angels next week.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Moves rehab to Triple-A

Toro (hamstring) had his rehab assignment shifted to Triple-A Las Vegas and will play at least two games with the Aviators before being re-evaluated, the Associated Press reports.

Toro played three games for the ACL Athletics during the All-Star break and went 3-for-8 with a grand slam and two walks over that span. Now that the rest of the minor-league affiliates are back in action, the team wants to see how Toro does against a higher caliber of competition this weekend before evaluating him for possible activation from an IL stint that dates back to June 21.

  • Athletics' Esteury Ruiz: Pulled from rehab assignment

Ruiz (wrist) was pulled off his rehab assignment Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Ruiz continues to feel discomfort in his injured left wrist, and he will be re-evaluated by a doctor Monday. The outfielder has been out since late May with a strained left wrist and appeared to be on the cusp of an activation from the 10-day injured list, but his status moving forward is now uncertain.

  • Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Set for MRI

Wilson (hamstring) will undergo an MRI on Sunday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Wilson exited Friday's 13-3 victory over the Angels in the fourth inning with a strained hamstring and his status moving forward is currently up in the air. Once the team receives the results of Sunday's MRI, a decision will be made on if the 22-year-old will head to the injured list or not.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Resting Saturday

Langeliers isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels.

After belting a two-run homer during Friday's blowout victory, Langeliers will give way to Kyle McCann behind the plate.

  • Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Not in Saturday's lineup

Wilson (hamstring) isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels.

Wilson had to be removed early from Friday's game after straining his hamstring. It remains to be seen whether his injury will cause him to spend some time on the IL, but he'll officially miss at least one game while Max Schuemann starts at shortstop Saturday, batting ninth.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Starts second half strong

Andujar went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in a win over the Angels on Friday.

The Athletics picked up right where they left off before the All-Star break in terms of their blistering bats, and Andujar provided one of the team's four multi-hit efforts in the lopsided victory. The veteran contributed to the 13-run barrage with his sixth-inning double that plated Lawrence Butler, giving him eight RBI over his last 11 games alone.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Laces triple in lopsided win

Butler went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple and a run in a win over the Angels on Friday.

Butler ignited what would be a 13-run outburst for the Athletics on the night with his third-inning triple that plated Jacob Wilson (hamstring) and Max Schuemann to erase an early 1-0 deficit. The rookie essentially picked up where he left off to conclude the first half of the season, as he'd memorably launched three home runs and driven in six runs in Sunday's rout of the Phillies. Butler now boasts a 1.505 OPS across his last seven games overall, a sample in which seven of his 10 hits have gone for extra bases.

  • Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Cleared for rehab assignment

The Athletics sent Hernaiz to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.

Hernaiz didn't play Friday in Sacramento's 4-2 loss to Salt Lake, but he should join the Triple-A lineup at some point later this weekend to kick off what will likely be an extended rehab assignment. The 22-year-old infielder has been on the injured list since May 8 with a significant left ankle sprain.

  • Athletics' Ross Stripling: Works five innings in rehab start

Stripling (elbow) gave up two earned runs on eight hits and no walks over five innings in his rehab start Friday with Triple-A Las Vegas. He didn't strike out a batter.

Stripling worked efficiently in the third start of his rehab assignment, needing just 52 pitches (37 strikes) to record 15 outs. Unless Stripling padded his pitch count in a bullpen session after exiting Friday's game, the Athletics will likely want to see Stripling reach around 70 pitches in another rehab start before bringing him back from the 15-day injured list. Stripling has been on the shelf since May 25 with a right elbow flexor strain.

  • Athletics' Max Muncy: Returns from Triple-A IL

Muncy (hand) started at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a solo home run Friday in Triple-A Las Vegas' 4-2 loss to Salt Lake in his return from the 7-day injured list.

Muncy made his first appearance for Las Vegas since May 14 after missing just over two months with a hand injury. Prior to being activated, Muncy had an eight-game rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, during which he slashed .379/.400/.724 with six extra-base hits and a stolen base.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Clubs 18th homer

Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 13-3 win over the Angels.

Langeliers has four homers over his last 13 games, and he's hitting .288 (15-for-52) in that span. The catcher has been more power than contact in 2024, but he's done both well of late. He ranks second to only Seattle's Cal Raleigh in homers among backstops -- Langeliers has 18 of them on the year. He's added a .213/.267/.443 slash line with 52 RBI, 35 runs scored, four stolen bases, nine doubles and two triples over 83 contests.

  • Athletics' JJ Bleday: Ends homer drought

Bleday went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double in Friday's 13-3 win over the Angels.

Bleday has five extra-base hits over his last two games, but he hadn't homered since June 22 before taking Matt Moore deep in the sixth inning. Bleday also recently endured a stretch of 20 contests without a multi-hit effort. That's taken some of the shine off a decent year for the outfielder, who is slashing .232/.314/.431 with 12 homers, 34 RBI, 42 runs scored, 25 doubles and four triples over 97 games. He's yet to successfully steal a base in 2024.

  • Athletics' Max Schuemann: Excellent in blowout win

Schuemann went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, four total RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 13-3 win over the Angels.

Schuemann got the start at third base rather than shortstop, but he was quickly moved back to his most common position after Jacob Wilson suffered a hamstring strain early in the game. It appeared Wilson's promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas would have a ripple effect on the Athletics' infield, but if the injury lands him on the IL, Schuemann would figure to once again have a clear path to an everyday role at shortstop. For the season, Schuemann is slashing .255/.345/.373 with six home runs, eight doubles, 24 RBI, 39 runs scored and nine stolen bases over 75 contests, though he's been sharper lately, hitting .390 (16-for-41) in July.

  • Athletics' Michel Otanez: Returns with scoreless inning

Otanez (forearm) pitched a perfect inning and struck out one in Friday's 13-3 win over the Angels.

Otanez was struck in the right forearm by a line drive during his most recent appearance last Saturday versus Philadelphia, but he ended up missing little action thanks to the All-Star break. He has pitched in five games in the majors this season, allowing three runs and posting a 7:5 K:BB over 4.2 innings in a low-leverage role.
