  • Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Two hits, two RBI in win

Ibanez went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Ibanez got the Tigers on the board with an RBI double in the fifth inning and then added an RBI single and scored on a wild pitch in the seventh. While he isn't playing every day, the 31-year-old is hitting a ridiculous .388 with all four of his home runs and 20 of his 23 RBI against left-handed pitching this season.

  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Hits grand slam in win

Rogers went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Rogers broke the game open with a grand slam off Trevor Richards in the sixth inning. The long ball was his first since June 29, as he has been sharing catching duties with Carson Kelly. On the year, the 29-year-old is hitting .204 with seven home runs, 20 RBI and 28 runs scored across 199 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Exits early versus Toronto

Olson was removed from Saturday's outing against the Blue Jays as a result of right shoulder soreness.

Olson threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit while walking two batters prior to exiting the contest having thrown 30 total pitches. Considering the soreness is in his throwing shoulder, Olson is an obvious candidate for a potential stint on the injured list, but more information on his status will likely come in the near future.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Resting versus LHP

Greene isn't in the Tigers' lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays.

With southpaw Yusei Kikuchi set to take the mound for Toronto, the left-handed bat of Greene will step out of the lineup. While he rests, Ryan Vilade, Matt Vierling and Wenceel Perez will start across Detroit's outfield.

  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Starting Saturday

Rogers is starting at catcher and batting sixth in Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Carson Kelly got the start in Friday's contest with Rogers on the bench, but the two will flip flop Saturday. To date, Kelly has appeared in 56 games, while Rogers will be at 60 games following his start Saturday. With the two catchers splitting time fairly evenly, their fantasy ceilings will remain capped. Rogers hasn't helped his cause much when he's been in the lineup, as he's sitting with a .597 OPS, down from the .730 mark he posted last year.

  • Tigers' Javier Baez: Back in action Saturday

Baez (back) will start at shortstop and bat seventh Saturday against the Blue Jays.

A back issue forced Baez out of last Saturday's game against the Dodgers and kept him out of the lineup through Friday, but the worst of it appears to be behind him. The 31-year-old finished the first half of the season with a career-worst .459 OPS through 214 plate appearances, though he remains locked in as Detroit's primary shortstop.

  • Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Enters lineup Saturday

Malloy is serving as the designated hitter and batting second in Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Malloy did not appear in the team's first game following the All-Star break Friday, but he'll slot in for Saturday's contest. The rookie has shown decent pop in a part-time role, hitting five home runs across 33 games, though he's batting just .219 and has struck out 34.5 percent of the time so far. He'll need to be a bit more consistent if he wants to earn more playing time.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Idle versus lefty

Keith isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi will toe the slab for Toronto on Saturday, meaning the lefty-hitting Keith will begin the game on the bench. Andy Ibanez will get the nod at second base while batting leadoff.

  • Tigers' Carson Kelly: Sitting Saturday

Kelly isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against Toronto.

After going 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Friday's contest, Kelly will take a seat Saturday while Jake Rogers starts behind the dish and bats sixth.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Used in eighth inning Friday

Foley pitched a clean eighth inning in Friday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays, with Tyler Holton working the ninth for the save.

After Beau Brieske started the eighth inning by allowing a single, a home run and another single, the Tigers turned to Foley. He managed to retire Vladimir Guerrero, Justin Turner and Leo Jimenez in order to maintain Detroit's lead and ultimately earn a hold. While Foley still sits tentatively atop the team's depth chart at closer, both Holton and Shelby Miller are waiting in the wings as needed.

  • Tigers' Mark Canha: Goes deep in return

Canha (wrist) went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Canha missed the last game before the All-Star break with a sore wrist but was able to return following the long layoff. The veteran outfielder hasn't really gotten going yet for the Tigers, as he's batting just .229 with a .688 OPS in his first season with the team. Last year, Canha batted .262 with a .755 OPS for the Brewers and Mets. He had an OPS of .700 or better in each of the previous six seasons, so he'll need a strong finish in 2024 to keep that streak alive.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Goes yard in victory

Perez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 5-4 win over Toronto.

The switch-hitter occupied the leadoff spot in this game and popped a 374-foot two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the seventh inning, extending Detroit's lead to 5-2. Perez has become a solid contributor over his last 10 games, hitting .314 (11-for-35) with two homers, six runs scored, and five RBI. The Tigers rookie is now slashing .264/.317/.408 with six homers, 38 runs scored and 24 RBI across 302 plate appearances this season.

  • Tigers' Tyler Holton: Snags third save

Holton picked up his third save of the year in Friday's 5-4 win against the Blue Jays, pitching a clean inning with no strikeouts.

The 28-year-old southpaw required only 10 pitches to safely lock up his fourth career save while facing the 6-7-8 hitters in the Toronto lineup. Detroit manager A.J. Hinch was playing matchups in this game as the Tigers' usual closer, Jason Foley, pitched against the heart of the Blue Jays' order in the eighth inning. However, Holton may see more save chances in the future, as he's been solid since May 25, going 3-for-3 in save opportunities while pitching to a 2.70 ERA across 26.2 innings.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fans eight in win

Flaherty (7-5) earned the win Friday versus Toronto, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

The Detroit right-hander collected his second consecutive win, as he conjured 17 whiffs to produce eight punchouts. In his second start since returning from a back injury, Flaherty masterfully commanded his arsenal over 98 pitches. He has now pitched to a 3.13 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 127:17 K:BB across 100.2 innings, making him a prime trade target at the upcoming July 30 deadline. Flaherty is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Guardians on the road.

  • Tigers' Matt Manning: On Triple-A IL with lat injury

Triple-A Toledo placed Manning on its 7-day injured list Friday due to a right lat strain.

Manning has been with Toledo since late May after making five starts with the Tigers early in the season. The 26-year-old had turned in a 4.53 ERA across 59.2 innings with Toledo and looked to be a candidate to step in as the Tigers' No. 5 starter coming out of the All-Star break with Casey Mize (hamstring) on the injured list, but the lat strain will remove Manning from consideration for a call-up.

  • Tigers' Javier Baez: Remains out of Detroit lineup

Baez (back) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game in Toronto.

Baez missed the final contest before the All-Star break, and the time off wasn't enough to get him back in the lineup. The Tigers had expressed optimism earlier this week that Baez could avoid the injured list, but it's not a good sign that five days of rest was insufficient. Zach McKinstry will handle shortstop Friday.

  • Tigers' Mark Canha: Returns to lineup

Canha (wrist) will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth in Friday's game against the Blue Jays.

Canha tweaked his right wrist in the second-to-last game before the All-Star break and didn't play Sunday, but he's ready to roll after getting some rest. The 35-year-old will enter the second half having slashed just .130/.250/.167 in his last 17 games.
