  • Braves' Bryce Elder: Added as 27th man

Atlanta added Elder to its roster ahead of his start in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.

Elder hasn't enjoyed the same success in the majors this season (5.71 ERA) as he had last year (3.81 ERA), but he'll be called upon nonetheless to get Atlanta through the final game of Saturday's twin bill. The 25-year-old right-hander already faced St. Louis earlier this season, taking a loss after allowing two runs in six innings while striking out four batters. He'll likely be sent back to Triple-A Gwinnett following the end of the game.

  • Braves' Sean Murphy: Sitting for matinee

Murphy isn't in Atlanta's lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Travis d'Arnaud will start behind the plate for the first game of Saturday's twin bill, making Murphy the likely choice to start at catcher during the nightcap.

  • Braves' Bryce Elder: Headed to majors

Atlanta will recall Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

With Friday's game against St. Louis being pushed back to Saturday due to rain, Elder will join Atlanta for a spot start in the nightcap. The 25-year-old righty owns a 5.71 ERA and 1.62 WHIP through 34.2 innings in the majors this season, though he allowed just two runs in six frames when he started against the Cardinals on June 26.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Friday's start rained out

Schwellenbach won't start as scheduled Friday against the Cardinals, as the game was postponed due to rain.

Atlanta and St. Louis will play a doubleheader Saturday. Charlie Morton and Bryce Elder will start during the twin bill, while Schwellenbach will get bumped to Sunday's contest, per Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The 24-year-old allowed four earned runs in five innings while striking out six batters and walking none in a loss the first time he faced the Cards on June 24.

  • Braves' Ian Anderson: Rehab transferred to Triple-A

Anderson (elbow) will start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Saturday's outing will be Anderson's first at the Triple-A level and the fifth start of his rehab stint. The 26-year-old has been recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent in April 2023 and worked up to 46 pitches in his last rehab outing. Anderson will likely only require one or two more starts before being activated, although it's not clear if Atlanta has a spot for him in the big-league rotation.

  • Braves' Sean Murphy: Absent from Friday's lineup

Murphy is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Murphy sat out the final game before the All-Star break and will also begin the first contest after the break on the bench. Travis d'Arnaud will do the catching for Spencer Schwellenbach.

  • Braves' JR Ritchie: Dazzles in return

Ritchie (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list July 12 and tossed five no-hit frames with one walk and seven strikeouts that night for Single-A Augusta.

Ritchie successfully made it all the way back from May 2023 Tommy John surgery. He just turned 21 in June and now has a 3.49 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 42:8 K:BB in 28.1 career innings at the Single-A level, so a promotion to High-A could be coming in short order.

  • Braves' Ramon Laureano: Activated from injured list

Atlanta activated Laureano (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Laureano wound up missing more than three weeks of action with a left oblique strain. He will skip a rehab assignment and go right back onto Atlanta's active roster. Adam Duvall and Laureano could split starts in right field against righties, with both Duvall and Laureano likely to be in the lineup most days versus lefties.

  • Braves' Jose Perdomo: Makes pro debut

Perdomo (hamstring) was activated from the 60-day injured list Monday and debuted in the Dominican Summer League.

He has gone 1-for-4 with one strikeout in two games since getting activated. Perdomo was one of the top international prospects to sign this year on Jan. 15, but he dealt with a significant hamstring injury that delayed his pro debut.

  • Braves' Michael Harris: Unlikely to return until August

Harris (hamstring) is still at least two or three weeks away from returning from the 10-day injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

The center fielder has yet to begin a rehab assignment as he recovers from a hamstring strain that's sidelined him since June 14. Harris was slashing a disappointing .250/.295/.358 prior to the injury, and in his absence, Jarred Kelenic has seized firm hold of the leadoff job. When Harris gets activated from the IL, expect him to hit in the bottom half of the order.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Goes two innings in rehab outing

Ynoa (elbow) failed to record a strikeout and gave up one earned run on two hits and no walks over two innings in his rehab outing Tuesday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Ynoa's appearance Tuesday was his first at any level since April 14, as he's been on the mend from a right elbow stress reaction for the past three months. He'll likely require the entire 30-day rehab window to get fully stretched out before he's activated from the 60-day injured list, at which point Atlanta will likely option him to Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Braves' Aaron Bummer: Not seeing high-leverage work

Bummer has posted a 3.62 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB through 32.1 innings with two wins, zero saves and zero holds through 33 appearances.

Acquired from the White Sox in the offseason to bolster Atlanta's relief corps, Bummer hasn't been able to claim a high-leverage role in a much deeper bullpen than he was part of in Chicago. The southpaw has been effective at keeping the ball in the park, serving up only one homer despite a 54.9 percent groundball rate that's his lowest mark since he was a rookie in 2017. Barring a rash of injuries ahead of him in the pecking order, Bummer will likely continue working in middle relief in the second half, limiting his fantasy value even in formats that use holds as well as saves.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Starting rehab assignment in FCL

Atlanta sent Ynoa (elbow) to the rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.

Ynoa will be making his first appearance since he was shut down in mid-April with a right elbow stress reaction. The right-hander is on Atlanta's 60-day injured list, but he should eventually get optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett once he completes his rehab assignment. Ynoa hasn't pitched at the major-league level since 2022, having missed all of 2023 following Tommy John surgery.

  • Braves' Brian Anderson: Outrighted off 40-man roster

Atlanta outrighted Anderson to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

After being reinstated from the 10-day injured list this past Wednesday, Anderson appeared in just one of Atlanta's subsequent five games before being pushed off the 40-man roster. Atlanta will announce a replacement for Anderson on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster prior to their first game out of the All-Star break Friday versus the Cardinals.
