ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - CBS7 FIRST ALERT Forecast for Thursday, July 4th, 2024: It’ll be a hot Independence Day across West Texas and southeast New Mexico.

Lows will only drop into the 60s, 70s and 80s across the region. Temperatures will warm quickly on Thursday with highs topping out in the 90s and triple digits. Midland/Odessa are looking to reach a high temperature of 102 degrees. Rain chances and coverage increase across the region Thursday with rain chances all the way into the Permian Basin. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening hours, however, it will not be a washout. Even with rain and thunderstorm chances, it’s looking to be a decent day for any July 4th celebrations going on across the area.

Rain chances continue through the majority of the extended forecast along with some cooler temperatures as a few cold fronts make their way across the region. Hot temperatures hang on through our Thursday before we look ahead towards some cooler temperatures on Friday with temperatures right around normal for this time of year. Cooler temperatures are looking to hang on through the rest of the extended forecast as well with highs remaining in the 90s for the Midland/Odessa area.
