ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -The League of United Latin American Citizens in Odessa hosted the breakfast with a champion event.

The national Chapman for LULAC was at the event to speak about the future of LULAC.

In this event, LULAC is informing the community about immigration laws, how they could affect the Hispanic community in Odessa and across the United States, and how they can get involved.

LULAC National Chapman Hilda Duarte visited Odessa to speak about the new immigration laws that could take place.

“Immigration reform we have been asking for many years and we are hoping we can get that finally done because it is affecting a lot of our families not just locally but throughout the nation and we are the largest consumers in the United States, so we bring a lot of money to the table,” said Hilda Duarte.

Duarte spoke about how these laws could impact the state of Texas and what they are looking to improve in the community.

“The future is now. We are not looking for tomorrow or the next day. It’s today and what can we do now to improve the lives of our children, grandchildren, and communities.” said Hilda Duarte.

LULAC will be going to a national convention in Las Vegas to vote on the new bylaws.

This event is to speak to people about what LULAC does and to give them a preview of the national convention

“We will be able to come back with more information on how to conduct businesses in the state and the community and we are looking forward to bringing back new commissions and getting people better prepared and groomed to serve at a higher level,” said Carol Uranga

In the event, LULAC encouraged people to get involved by voting to get their voices heard.

“Get out and vote if you take yourself to vote then you take somebody with you and you make it count. you walk in your neighborhood within your district and more people will be elected. The representative is better.” said Carol Uranga.
