ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - Over the past two weeks the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released this year’s STAAR scores for individual students and for school districts.

ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri said in a press conference they have closed the gap between their scores and the state averages in 3rd and 7th grade reading language arts and math, as well as 8th grade math and end of course biology and U.S. history.

Even with the improvements, Dr. Muri said they can always improve but credits recent success to its teachers.

“We have significantly improved the number of high quality teachers that work with our students,” Dr. Muri said. “We provided more supports to our teachers, better resources to our teachers, they have high quality instructional materials to work with. Which again is access to our students, access to those high quality resources.”

The 2024 statewide results show declines in the areas of math, science, Social Studies, and English I End of Course and the District also saw overall declines in these areas.

“There are a variety of reasons for these mixed results,” said Dr. Muri. “Many students are still struggling to recover from pandemic learning loss, and they are adapting to a new testing system.”

Parents and families are encouraged to log in to their school district’s family portal or TexasAssessment.gov to view their child’s individual STAAR 3-8 results.
