MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - Midland County Public Libraries is revamping is ‘1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program.’ The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded funding to the Midland County Public Library under its Texas Reads grant program.

The ‘1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program’ is free, and encourages early literacy skills by having parents read one thousand books with their children before they start kindergarten.

The Library provides themed backpacks with 10 books each that adults can check out.

Each 100-book milestone will be rewarded with a small prize provided by the Midland County Public Library Foundation.

“TSLAC is pleased to recognize and support the important work of Texas libraries in delivering innovative information services that strengthen local literacy, workforce and digital opportunity efforts,” said TSLAC Director and Librarian Gloria Meraz.
