DUMAS, Texas (KFDA) - The Dumas Demons have already punched their ticket to the 7on7 state tournament in College Station. On Saturday morning, Dumas held a Division II state qualifying tournament. Multiple schools from the Amarillo and Lubbock area joined in with hopes of making a state tournament berth of their own.

The Hereford Whitefaces won the state qualifying tournament defeating Lubbock Christian, 34-27.

7on7 football is a rapidly growing and popular sport. It is an opportunity for student-athletes to be involved in more football during the off season, gearing up for the fall.

“It’s just an opportunity for our kids to compete,” Dumas football head coach Aaron Dunnam said. “It is a passing league, but I think there is a lot that has to do with the game of football. Just an opportunity to get our kids competing during the summer in our offseason.”

“I think the biggest thing in coming out here and competing in 7on7 is just the competition aspect of football and giving our guys something to do in the summer. I mean the alternative is they would be sitting at home sitting on the couch. Just another chance to come out and compete and let our kids come out and compete and experience a competitive environment,” Perryton football head coach Joshua Hernandez said.

The 7on7 state tournament will be in College Station Tx at the Veterans Park and Athletic Complex. The Division II & III tournaments will be Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28. The Division I tournament will be Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29.
