Two charged with arson, public intoxication after fight leads to homicide

BIG SPRING, Texas (KOSA) - Eric Olivas, 21, and Amber Wilcox, 19, have been charged with public intoxication and arson after a fight and fire at a home in Big Spring on May 23.

According to the Big Spring Police, Olivas and Wilcox were first contacted by police at 8th and Caylor after a suspicious persons call was made. When officers spoke with them, Olivas told them they had been involved in an altercation with Sidney Parker, 55 at Parker’s home.

Officers were dispatched to 400 NE 12th to check on Parker, and other officers took Olivas and Wilcox to Scenic Mountain Medical Center to be treated for injuries they had from the altercation with Parker. When they were discharged, they were arrested for Public Intoxication.

When police arrived to Parker’s home there was a small fire inside. Big Spring Fire Department was called to the home. Police found Parker dead inside the home from what appeared to be blunt force trauma. An autopsy was attended and detectives ruled Parker’s death a homicide.

Later on May 23, police got arrest warrants for both Olivas and Wilcox for arson. Both have been charged with arson and are in the Howard County Jail.

Big Spring police says the criminal investigation is still ongoing and in the Howard County Jail. This is an ongoing criminal investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
