AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Canyon ISD officially named Karli Morrison as the next head volleyball coach at Randall High School on Monday night.

“I’ve grown up here my whole life,” Morrison said. “Wanting to come back to the Panhandle, wanting to be closer to family, that’s the main reason I came to this job.”

The hire comes just three weeks after it was announced that Haleigh Burns was vacating the position to take over the same role at Amarillo High.

Morrison comes to Randall after two years at Weatherford ISD. She’s made stops at Levelland and Lubbock-Cooper before her time at Weatherford High School.

“Number one thing we really wanted was, we wanted a really good fit with Randall,” Canyon director of athletics John Peterson said of the hire. “Her being a West Texas girl, I knew she was wanting to come back more to this area. We’re just so excited and I think it’s just going to be a complete and total fit for Coach Morrison and the Randall volleyball program.”

Prior to that, Morrison played high school volleyball at Dalhart under legendary Randall and Bushland head coach Jason Culpepper. She then went on to attend West Texas A&M, where she graduated in 2010.

Morrison’s achievements include Coach of the District in 2014 and 2015 in Levelland, District Coach of the Year at Lubbock-Cooper in 2020 and 2021 and District Coach of the Year at Weatherford in 2022.

Randall is coming off back-to-back trips to the 4A state championship game under Coach Burns. Next season’s roster will be headlined by all-state setter Sidney Soria who will be entering her senior season.

“I met some of the seniors for next year and I asked them what their goal was, and they said, ‘We’re going back to state and I’m not bringing home a silver this time,’” Morrison recounted of her first conversations with the players on the team. “They already have high expectations in place... we’re not gonna fix something that’s not broke.”

The Lady Raiders are currently scheduled to start the season with non-district action against Wylie on August 13th.
