CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - The Canyon Eagles take down district foe West Plains 9-1 in game two of the regional quarterfinals on Friday at Wilder Park at West Texas A&M. The Eagles take the best-of-three series, and are headed to the regional semifinals.

Carson Allen was the key factor for the Eagles at the plate. Allen’s two-run homerun in the first inning added to the Eagles lead early on and Canyon continued to dominate from there. Allen drove in four runs, and went a perfect 3-for-3 in the batter’s box.

The Eagles only tallied six hits, but they were timely. Christian McGuire finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Zabien Urteaga went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Colt Cruth captured the win on the mound in his four innings of work. Cruth gave up one run on five hits. Bayler Schilling came in relief, and struck out four batters giving up no runs and no hits.

West Plains’ lone run of the evening came in the home half of the third. Bradley Cepeda popped out to left field, and Jeremiah Gutierrez tagged up at third base and scored.

Canyon will play the winner of Decatur and Springtown in the regional semifinals next week. Date, time and location will be announced soon.
