West Plains wins schools first state championship, Randall girls doubles captures gold in UIL tennis state championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KFDA) - The UIL State Tennis Championships concluded on Friday in San Antonio with the final matches.

Scout Adams and Cooper Richardson sketched their names in the West Plains history books. The mixed doubles team won the school’s first ever state championship.

Adams and Richardson defeated district rival’s Hereford in the state title match (6-2, 2-6, 6-4).

Hereford’s Macy Betzen and Brandon Ysaguirre ended up capturing silver in the 4A mixed doubles.

Randall’s Kynley Craddock and Gabby Dishong are also bringing home the gold. Craddock and Dishong won the 4A girls’ doubles state title match over Tatum Salinas and Alyssa Van Zandt of Burnet (6-3, 6-3).

The Raiders added more hardware as Daxon Betzen and Bryson Shelton finished second in 4A boys’ doubles. Cadon Coker and Owen Ruiz of Burkburnett defeated Betzen and Shelton in the state title match.

Tascosa’s Tucker Haynes finished as a 5A state quarterfinalist in boys’ singles.

Amarillo High’s Allex Gonzalez and Sara Shelhammer finished as 5A state quarterfinalists in girls’ doubles.

Hereford’s Ella Dudley finished as a 4A state semifinalist in girls’ singles.

Canyon’s Lauren Brooks finished as a 4A state quarterfinalist in girls’ singles.

Canyon’s Brylee Jesko and Brooke Febstock finished as 4A state semifinalists in girls’ doubles.

White Deer’s Brodie Weathers finished as a 1A state quarterfinalist in boys’ singles.

Nazareth’s Bryson Brockman and Creed Hochstein finished as 1A state semifinalists in boys’ doubles.

Nazareth’s Madison Brockman and Kate Brockman finished as 1A state quarterfinalists in girls’ doubles.

Nazareth’s Harley Gerber and Tanner Wethington finished as 1A state quarterfinalists in mixed doubles.
