MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - Starting in the fall of 2024, Midland ISD is going to have an option to pay tuition for Pre-K classes. The monthly tuition for the program will be $350 dollars, collected from August through May.

This new opportunity is designed specifically for families who may not qualify for traditional Pre-K, but still desire expanded education for their young children.

There will be 11 tuition-based Pre-K spots at Bowie Fine Arts Academy and 22 spots at Scharbauer Elementary School. The Pre-K program will be from 7:45 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Each classroom will have a certified teacher and teacher’s aide. According to MISD the curriculum will cover 100% of the Texas Pre-K guidelines.

“The program is aligned with the district’s Strategic Plan, with success measured through goal progress measures approved by the school board,” said Andrea Messick, Executive Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning. “Students will be assessed in phonological awareness and math three times a year through the online CLI platform.”

Parents will have the opportunity to apply, and students will be selected via lottery. To apply, parents can visit the MISD Central Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, or schedule an appointment by calling 432-240-1530 or emailing pre-k@midlandisd.net between May 29 and May 31.

The lottery will be held on Wednesday, June 5. Parents must respond to lottery offers by June 7. Families will be contacted the week of June 10 with placement information and will have the option of being placed on a waitlist if a seat is not offered. If offers are not accepted, an additional lottery will take place the week of June 17.
